Does anyone know the Lake City spec's on the 300 Win Mag Match Ammo. This ammo is shot by the Secret Service and some others.
Velocity ? FPS
Bullet ? Grains
Bullet type or BC ?

Hi Carl;
The .300WM is loaded for Navy with an OAL of 3.50 and commercial match is 3.34 OAL. The following are for the 190 gr Match/Navy as loaded by Federal;
Bullet wt;190 gr
BC; 0.533
MV; 3000 fps
Mzl energy;3796
rim dia; 0.532
case length; 2.62
OAL;3.34/3.50
Lake City spec's are the same as Federal all use the 190 gr Sierra HP Match King with the only difference between issue and commercial being the OAL. Mil spec calls for the 3.50, to match the throating of M86, M24 SWS.
There were some 220 gr rounds and others around in testing, but the 190 gr is the standard now, hope this helps buddy. take care...Jim

Jim,
Thanks for the .300WM spec's!
I'm doing an exterior ballistic study that compares .30 calibers to 7mm's. I plan to post the data in my SOCCHAT photo album. This study will show that the 7mm-08 is far superior to any non-magnum .30 caliber. I plan to also show that the .284 Win. is far superior to the .300WM.
Hopefully, these studies will help some to better understand exterior ballistics, and therefore become better tactical shooters.
Thanks again buddy!
Carl

Just wondering if anyone is interested in how bullet ballistic coefficients affect accuracy. Am I wasting my time sharing the performance comparison of high BC 7mm's and military standard 30 calibers?

Post anything you want! This is the only place I have found that comes close to this level of expertise. There are some other sites I visit. But for technical info, this is hard to beat.

Carl,
How's it going? I'm very interested in the 7mm vs. 30 caliber subject. I have like the 7mm bullet for a long time.
Worked on a project to neck down the 338 Lapua case, using a shorter case, to 7mm. Some pretty devestating results on paper with the exterior ballistics.
By the way, Amazon is carrying the HTI book, here's the link.

Take care, and see you later.

Carl,
Almost forgot, have some more info that may help you. I have the Navy Crane Match Ammunition Test results for the development of the A-191 cartridge (military 300 Magnum). Send me an email to Triggerfifty@home.com with your mailing address and i'll get you a copy. Some pretty interesting stuff about the effects of ammo temp, powder position effect on muzzle velocity, etc.
See you later,

Cut and Triggerfifty,
I wonder why a nation that put a man on the moon has it's tactical shooters (military and police) using fifty year old technology (NATO 7.62). The superior performance of the 7mm (7x57) has been known since the Spanish-American War of 1898. The advent of better powders and bullet designs (ballistic coefficients) in the past fifty years has further advanced the performance capabilities of the 7mm. So, why haven't our weapon designers implemented these superior designs? I think that if those that make these decisions had to put their lives at risk with our current technology, the decision to implement the best cartridge possible would be made quickly.
Well, I got that off my chest!
Thanks for your replies.
Hold'em hard!
