View Full Version : Oil Spill
Well, the Oil spill has now officially ruined my summer of spear fishing in the gulf. Do any of you know some decent shops/charters in the North/South Carolina region that take out spear fishers? I know I can find some on Google, just curious if any of you have experiences (good or bad) with the different shops?
I don't know of any in NC/SC, but there are some good ones in South FL. Check out Dixie Divers in Deerfield, FL. Pavan is the owner/divemaster there, and head of the Brazillian dive team. The last dive I went on with him, we had a couple with us spearfishing. One of them had some kind of anti-shark rig, that attached at her ankle and had a lead that went up to her shoulder. She kept her kills on a huge D-ring at her weight belt. The rig would occassionally send out an electric "wave" to freak the sharks out and prevent them from going after the dead fish. It woul also make the dead fish on the D-ring jump. I guess it was effective, because she made it back to the boat in one piece.
Oil spill? Shit. What's the word on Gulf diving this summer? Is this going to be bad?

Was hoping to hit the "Flower Gardens" but not sure how much of that will be affected. Standing by to hear news.
Flower Gardens should be cool. The currents and wind are pushing everything East.

Try scuba board for information.
If your in South Florida/West Palm give Jim Abernethy's scuba adventure a try. Captain Sean looks like (Captain Ron) but is the best boat captain by far. The staff and crew are great, knowledgable people. Always a great time. I had the chance to see a fresh water alligator in 60 feet of water off Breaker's Reef by turttle mound with Laz. It was a first for West Palm that anyone can remember.

Watched the vid, that shit looks bad. Instead of the stuff floating on the surface its just getting broken up and put back in the water column where it cant be seen.
So why cant they stop the well?
