Not really... banks and castles. Food. Other than to say you've been there.

If you in that area, spend the extra day in Amsterdam.

Lux City is nice.

A lot of Patton/WWII historical stuff.

I spent a weekend a year for a couple of years in Lux City for "Patton Days" (or something similar, though I can't find any reference to it on the Interwebz) when I was in 8th ID and I remember it being a great time. It was a parade and "fest" in honor of Patton and the liberation army. Big blow out, very drunk, ladies were super friendly. We marched in Class A through downtown Lux City in 95 degree heat then got trashed at the after party. I you can catch that it would definitely be worth your time.

Luxembourg consumes the most alcohol in Europe per capita.

get in touch with "pirate" on this board (he lurks a little.. posts less.. but should respond to a PM)..

he has spent ALOT of time there.. probably knows more about the city, the culture, the people, etc.. than anyone that is not a current resident..

I've spent 22 months there. You can see it in a day. The battlefield cemetery's are the best part.

If you're driving, be prepared for massive traffic. Best to avoid morning or afternoon rush hour.

Used to get down there quite a bit when I was in NATO. Clean, attractive city, but the best attraction from my perspective was the US Cemetary with Patton's grave. Of course there're a lot of American Souls in that part of the Benelux. Margratten and Arnhem in the NL aren't far away and worth a visit as well.

It's worth stopping to get cheaper gas than in Germany or Belgium (at least that was the situation last time I was there). As others have said, the historic cemeteries are the most interesting thing there.

If you're going up to Belgium, try and stop in Bastogne. The city itself has all kinds of historic monuments and a museum. There's actually a really cool little privately owned museum right near McAuliffe square (there's small signs that point it out), and in my opinion it's better than the larger museum. The guy that owns it is really easy going and despite not speaking much English he will try to explain just about everything to you. He also has things for sale. If you head out of Bastogne up toward Foy, there's a 101st memorial along the road, and if you go into the woods around the town there's still evidence of foxhole depressions. When I was there we had a metal detector and found everything from razor heads to ammo.

I also would say to stop at the Luxembourg Cemetery. If you contact the cemetery before you arrive they will be waiting for you and give you a private tour. They should do this if you just show up if they are not with another person already, but you can arrange it with a phone call.

Thanks for all the insight and tips , looks like I will give Lux a day , then will be heading to Amsterdam , Prague , and it's still a toss up between ending in Budapest or Bucharest. All in all it will be 10 days , just not sure which cities to give more days to. Some friends say Bucharest for the nicest girls :)

spent a little time in both.. my vote would go to Bucharest.. you'll find more english speakers (although they still are not common).. the city is really very nice.. and pretty easy to navigate.. plenty to see and do to cover maybe 2 days.. after that I think you would be bored in either place..

I lived in the NL for three years. If you're driving to Amsterdam park at Ajax stadium and take the train in from there. Its about 20K south of the city on the right as you're heading north - you can miss it. Parking is cheaper and driving in Amsterdam is bad and parking is damn near impossible. (BTW - if there's an event at Ajax ignore this advice).
