Im in the LA area and am looking for begginer markmanship courses. I've called countless ranges and gunshops and none offer anything beyond pistols. Would anyone know of classes in the area? Thanks.

I know Mike Miller is associated with the American Shooting Academy. I intend on taking his course this upcoming summer, I am very impressed with what he contributes to trade mags and on boards on this topic, he seems like a VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE GUY.

CONTINUED: OTHERWISE IT SEEMS LIKE MY ONLY OPTION WOULD BE TO BUY THE SET UP WHICH IVE BEEN RESEARCHING FOR THE PAST TWO MONTHS, BUT IVE ONLY BEEN PARTIAL TO THE HEADS FIRST APPROACH. I WOULD ALSO BE AFRAID OF DEVELOPING BAD HABITS AS I HEARD YOU COULD IF NOT PROPERLY SCHOOLED. A CO WORKER WHO SHOOTS SAID LA IS NOT LONG RANGE GUN FRIENDLY AND ONLY TOLERATES HAND GUNS SOOOOOO TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT HE SAID GO FOR IT. "HANG OUT WITH THE GUYS ON THE RANGE AND PICK UP POINTER FROM THEM." WOULD YOU VETERANS CONSIDER THIS PRACTICAL ADVISE?

Mohawk,
I'm in North Orange County. I'll ask around and see if any shooting clinics are being held. A few years back, several local clubs held clinics to promote the shooting sports.
Call the Duarte (Fish Canyon) range, and ask if they have anything going.
Got to go to work!

I want to thank you guys for the kind comments and yes I am running two courses in New Mexico this summer. I tend to stay out of Calif for civilian classes because of the stupid politics and do my civilian classes in New Mexico. I work with James Jarrett of ASA and we put on a balanced class of Special Forces and LE Type sniper training. It turns out some very good snipers. Hope to see you this summer

Do any of you know of a Special Ops sniper by the name of Todd Bray? He is from Georgia and has been doing it for a long time. He made some pretty impressive shots down at Ft. Stewart before the Desert Storm build up. Supposed to have a pretty impressive reputation. I'm just an old friend trying to locate him if you can help.
Good Shooting,
Bruce

That was my AO and the right timeframe but I've never heard of him, which means nothing. The only Bray I remember was a bitch O-3 named Linda Bray. But, thats another story altogether.

Sharky,
Thanks for the reply and by the way, what does F.I.D.O. mean and have you every heard anyone refer to Special Ops as "S.O.D."?
Thanks!

FIDO= Fuck It Drive On
No, but it could stand for something like Special Operations Detachment. I know that there were some units in RVN that were referred to as SOG and possibly some referred to as SOD maybe, but, there are many people on here who are more qualified to talk about RVN units than I. I have heard of SFOD-D but the chances of your friend being involved with them would be slim. Good luck and FIDO.
