View Full Version : PRO-TEC Tactical Helmets

Does anyone know how/where to get a hold of those sterile, no-vent PRO-TEC looking helmets you see around? Is PRO-TEC the actual manufacturer of these, or is some other outfit producing tactical helmets that happen to look like PRO-TEC lids?

Thanks for your help,

- Bernd

Were you talking about the Ops-Core FAST Bump Helmet here?: http://www.ops-core.com/FAST_Bump_Helmet_P8.cfm

http://www.protechtactical.com/default.aspx Protech Tactical.com didn't have any non-ballistic helmets in their catalog.

I will give a shout out to Ops Core on their customer service.
It is outstanding. I had a personal interaction with them and they made it right. They shipped me the parts overseas and free of charge. Goes a long way with me...

A Low Speed High Drag, tactically sound, techically proficient, AirSoft team commander with a decent Credit Card...???

I'm thinking this guy might buy it:

I wasn't familiar with that FAST bump helmet before. It looks pretty cool but, I must say, the price tag is almost comical. I wonder how much it costs to manufacture? Thanks for the link.

Also, when I said "PRO-TEC", I was actually referring to this company:

Think skateboard helmets.

Sharky:
Good link. I appreciate it. That's pretty much what I was looking for.

Lannister:
That picture is hilarious. Do you think chubs is getting orders to execute the kid beside him?

You only have "ONE" head and I would suggest protecting it with the "BEST" product there is.

I think that chubs is talking to some outstanding customer service rep on his way cool tactical radio, getting ready to lay down his Decent credit card and buy himself (and his buddies, too... because he's THAT kinda 'think 1st BATT' Special Ops guy) each a $593 Core FAST Special Bump Helmet that wont stop.........anything........ so they can be even more HSLD.

Neither. I was just curious where those lids were coming from.
I am, how you say... very bored.

Not I...

Cruise on over to Lightfighter.net and you'll find quite the following though -- I'm guessing whole paychecks spent on cool guy gear that never makes it past the range.

Some units on the ground think they're worth it.

No, that's the ballistic helmet. You can see the difference in the two by the holes in the BUMP helmet -- the Ballistic helmet doesn't have them for obvious reasons.

A few guys I work with downrange have the Ops-Core Ballistic Helmet and it is a sweet piece of kit -- and having a personal helmet set up the way you like it is always nice.

That's the one I have. It is nice. And, no. I didn't buy it with my own coin. And before anybody asks... I don't play Airsoft and I use it in the ACTUAL AOR. :)

They are NICE... I'm an admitted gear whore -- who really wants one of these -- and my wife always give me shit for buying "gear" but I can say I don't spend on useless shit.

One of the TL's has one and I was really surprised at how well thought out the helmet was -- the weight alone was awesome, but add in ballistic protection and it's a winner if you've got the cheddar.

As for your Airsoft play time, you don't have to explain anything to us, bro, it's cool.;)

Have you ordered stuff from them before? Any idea what their usual turn-around time is? Our money guy ordered a helmet for me a couple of weeks ago (yeah, I had to get a XXL...) and we haven't seen anything yet.

I feel like Ralphie waiting for my Little Orphan Annie decoder ring. :(

Not DEA FAST.

If it's a ballistic helmet, that's a different story. But if you pay $593 of your own money for a helmet with no ballistic properties to wear in theatre you are a fucking retard on several different levels and I dont give a shit what unit you're in..

We already got shot down for the Ops-Core, that's why I went with the Pro-Tec. Thanks for the feedback; we're using 'em for the same purpose.

Nice. Ha Ha.

It is a great helmet. Like the others I don't see a reason for the non ballistic helmet. Except maybe being the coolest dude at the BMX park. I am not worried about busting my melon on the frame of a Hummer while getting in and out. I am worried about a flying projectile canoeing my forehead.
Mine (ballistic) is uber comfortable. The harness is G2G with that little "dial" in the back. It is lighter than a MICH, also. And, as I get more - ahem - "seasoned", I appreciate the comfort factor more and more. It is some major coin but it is one of those "niceties". Kinda like the first padded straps for the Ruck back in the day. Did I need them? No. Were they more comfortable and worth it? Yep, to me. But, I'm weak like that. ;)
Ops Core also makes the NOD plate as a stand alone item. It's a good piece of gear too. Mine had a busted screw from being thrown in a temper tantrum. I emailed them and they responded with in 2 hours asking for my APO. They sent me an entire repair kit with ALL of the bolts, screws, nuts, etc for free. I am gear whore like you. This one was actually worth it. Better yet since I didn't pay for it. As a matter of fact, someone from the "pointy end of the spear" gave it to me.
And, this company is definitely not catering to the Air Soft/Paintball/cum guzzling crowd. I would have saw these lids during my weekend battles with them fighting for the blue flag.

We carry both so a side by side comparison is apples to oranges. The BUMP is better quality material, better suspension, better features, and is available in multicam  but I don't know if the cost is justified when compared to the Protec. I will say that the latter is easier to get right now, if time is a concern.

The comparison of the ballistic version of the Ops Core Helmet to a MICH, ACH, et al is a bit easier to justify if you look at the protection ratings and features that come standard on the Ops Core versus another helmet kitted out with the same features (OCC dial including chinstrap, VAS shroud, helmet rails and little NOD's bunji straps). The $$$ almost equals out...almost.

Also something to consider is the profile of the helmet rails if you plan on jumping under O2. The rails that come standard on the Ops Core Helmets are built specifically to interface with the mask and have a much better fitment than even the helmet rails they make for the ACH or the rails on the Protec helmet.

Sorry for the long meandering post.

Guy is on to something. I would never spend $600 of my own cash for a non-balistic helemt either, but.....

OPS CORE's bump helmet out performs the ACH/MICH with pads when it comes to impact protection by something like 50%. A big deal when you're rolling around inside an MRAP that just tumbled off a mountainside in Afghan, or just bounced off of the ceiling of your vehicle after an IED strike.

TBI isn't a joke, and taking car of that melon is very important. That being said, I rolled around with no crown pad in my MICH for years. Knowing what I know now, I was a fucking retard for doing so.

There is better stuff out there than the OPS CORE bump though.
