Came across this site looking for info on paths to be a SEAL. Son just grad. from HS. Was a USNA candidate (3-Q and 3-Nom's) also applied for NROTC but received neither. Was accepted at top 3 college preferences first one U. San Diego. BGO + Recruiter are encouraging him to re-apply for both and think ROTC odds are good if sent in soon for early Boards. Said not to enroll ROTC College Program until he heard back on 4 yr. scholarship re-app. Son's plan is to "work out this summer then enlist this fall and apply for SEAL training" (has wanted to be a SEAL for many years). Want to support him in his goal but also want him to make an informed decision. What is difference in SEAL enlisted vs. officer pipeline ? What is a SEAL contract ? Where else to gain more info? My suggestion was to re-apply for USNA and ROTC, get into college, and keep options open, play cards as they get dealt. If he enlists but does not make it into SEAL pprogram what then ? Sorry for lengthly post. PM's welcomed. Thanks
