Guys the recent winter storm in my area has brought up a very important question. How do you protect your optics from freezing rain? You can't shoot if you can't see out of the damn thing due to ice build-up. I've shot in some pretty nasty weather but never freezing rain. I know how to protect myself and have a few ideas on protecting my ability to see through the scope, just wondering if there is any BTDT figured it out solutions?

Trigger1..
I have had the same problem while calling coyotes in the winter when its snowing or we get freezing rain. I just keep my scope caps on until I am ready to shoot it only takes a second to pop them up.

If your a police sniper and you have to lay in it looking through your scope you have a problem. I used to use a sun shield on my Leupold for the front and it works fine other than when it came straight at you. Then keep your hand over the rear eye piece to protect the rear lens.

I also had trouble with my scope fogging up from my breath when its really cold out. Same thing for that keep the caps down and your breath away from the scope.

Maybe someone else has a better suggestion but thats whats workes for me.

Pat is right on! I live in the northeast, so I hear what your saying. There are some anti-fog products on the market , but I've had limited success with them. They work ok on snowmobile helmet lense's , but not the best on scopes.I keep a zip-lock bag of lense paper in my pocket and dry the lenses when they get to wet or fogged.

Just remember to be careful with what you use to wipe off the water, so you don't scratch the lenses!

I agree with the guy who keeps the lens paper handy.
I've used that and it works.
Also if you keep a piece of cloth around your face (just like the old westerns) your breath will not give away your place, scent and will not fog your scope.
Happy hunting to all.
