Gents,
I have been talking with my recruiter over the last week or so about joining the USAF Reserves, with the high hopes of going TACP. I should mention, that I did 4 years AD in USAF (Security Forces/E-4) from 02-06, got out and starting working in the civilian sector, which I'm still doing now.
With that said, I'm not new to the military, but I am new to the Reserves and I'm especially new to the TACP side of the house.
I understand that I must attend the TACP School House, since I'm cross training into a new career field. And I have some what of a resonable amount of understanding with the job itself (As much as I can know that is with what I can read and look up.) But there are some questions that I'm left wondering.
Which are......
1. Correct me if I'm wrong, but was informed that TACP guys are assigned to Army Bases instead of Air Force Bases? If this is correct, would I as a Reservist be assigned to a Army Reserve Base, where I would report to perform drill and training? (Again I may have been misinformed on this.)
2. If the above is correct, what Army Reserve Base/Bases would I be assigned to? (I live in South Hill, VA. 45 mins south of Petersburg)
3. If the above is not correct and I am assigned to an Airbase what Airbase/Bases supports TACP in my area? Or am I looking at having to relocate to another state so I can be in driving distance for my assigned reserve unit.
The reason for these questions is my recruiter is not too familiar with TACP, other than the job description. Furthermore, and this is not surprising, my recruiter is also not as motivated as I would like for her to be, to find these answers. She is always telling me that she is working on it.....
So I thought that I would turn here and see if any of you guys could answer or shine some light on my questions above. I been to romad.com and done some searching but couldn't find anything related to my questions at hand.
