En route to objective

I was just wondering if you guys carry an assault rifle with you while doing your tab to the target? Or is just your sidearm and your sniper rifle?

Your spotter carries the Assualt Rifle (usually an M-16/M-203 combination)

Most Snipers will carry their own M-16 for use enroute to the objective. A bolt action rifle doesn't do very well for trying to break contact. It is cumbersome, and extra weight to have your M-40 in the drag bag, slung across your pack.
By T/O the Scout/Sniper only rates the Sniper rifle and a pistol, but in most units, we could sign for an M-16 as well. After all, most of our missions do not require the trigger pulling, but are focussed primarily on being the eyes and ears of the Battalion Commander (as well as his trigger finger...when required)
