Hello,

I posted here with requests and information out of line awhile back. Since then I've gotten all necessary waivers and am enlisted as a "direct shipper" with the "IT" ratings. My ship date is December 2nd, I've been asked if they would like to put in my waiver for another chance at special operations on the clerical side of things for my Scoliosis, but wanted to see if there was any knowledge here regarding it since I can't get any answers here. I was also recommended to take my job, go into the fleet, and instead of trying this continuous waiver process to just earn my chance to try out for SEALS. I personally feel this to be the best option because I know there are people that want this just as much as me but have no obstacles to stop them.

Your chances of getting a waiver for Scoliosis are very slim.

RetiredSOCS,

That's an answer that's been consistent with 2 other people credible to their word, looks like I'll due my part in the fleet beforehand.

That being said, does the same apply for submission of a packet while in the fleet? I was informed that "none of that matters" anymore by recruiters once I'm "active duty". But I've been searching the forum and other informational sites and it looks like I could run into the same problem during my physicals once I'm allowed in. I may have to put my tenacity into my alternatively chosen field and hope to get a shot some other time.

All waivers go to BUMED whether coming from the fleet or the street. Your recruiter just wants you to ship off.

I can give some insight on this. In Aug. 2009 I enlisted in the Navy with a SO contract. On the day before I was to graduate boot camp I was called back to medical. It appeared that the chest xrays I took during our 'special physicals' had detected scoliosis in my spine. Now mind you, I am 27 and have never had back problems. The 'dive doc' there at medical told me that the lumbar curvature in my spine was 0.5 degrees to severe for Naval Special Warfare regultions, citing that should I make it through the training , the impact from the fast boats and parachute jumps could cause me problems. As a result he would not sign off on a waiver, therefore disqualifying me from SO as well as EOD, and SWCC. I then left the Navy under a 'defective enlistment' agreement. Let me know if I can help at all.
