View Full Version : Experience shipping medium sized machinery to Switzerland?

Not sure if this is the correct place to ask, but recently I have been asked by a friend to buy a used honda snowblower here in america and get it shipped over to his place in Switzerland.
I've never shipped anything larger than a parcel box.
I live in the North east (boston).
Are there any particular companies people have worked with and would recommended?
is there any kind of special documentation i'm going to need? Its a snowblower, I can't see it being under any kind of export control?
once again I bow to the collective wisdom of this board...

Best bet is to shop around for a freight forwarder, one that ships to that region regularly (most of them ship anywhere, but perhaps have more customers in one region than another).
Avoid going direct to an airline. They'll quote you the book rate for your individual shipment, which is always a lot higher than you'll get with a forwarder who consolidates several shipments under one manifest, all loaded onto their own pallet or container.
Sounds like DevilDawg hooked you up with the right info, either way.

I was waiting to write this post, but with the full quote in hand for door to door service I can positively say DevilDawg is the consummate professional.
Damn guy apologized for a "delay" in getting me a full quote when this whole thing (which was pretty loose at the start) started with this post here on sept 20th (thats less than 3 days).
I know advertising is frowned on here and he's not allowed to say it, but i'll say that should anyone here find themselves in a similar situation, You could do a hell of a lot worse and would be hard pressed to find better.
SOCNET comes through yet again, be it stuck motorcycle drain plugs, law school exam answers, or international snow blower shipping.
