First of all, let me apologize for not being educated about EOD. I realize this is because I have always been so focused on the SEALS.
I am currently in NROTC and I will graduate next year. So I have some decisions to make.
I realize that BUDS selection is extremely competitive and I am sure that EOD is as well.
I currently know very little about EOD and I am probably needing a little sales pitch for it. Hell, it may be more exciting than the TEAMS. As I said, I am ignorant about these operators.
My thing is this, if I don't get picked up for BUDS they are telling me I need a second choice...which I nvr wanted to think about.
Where can I learn some good stuff about the program...specifacally as a junior officer (duty stations/school...etc)
I guess I just need some gouge on this subject...whats up with EOD?
Also, what is the selection process like and would the guys selecting officers get a little offended if they saw that it was my second choice?
I'll stop for now.

I'll give you the quick down a dirty:
EOD is a lot smaller than the Teams. If you counted every tech (officer and enlisted)in the Navy you'd probably get somewhere around 800.
A couple of key points:
Attrition with all of required schools in mind works out to about 50%.
There are a few females in EOD. (don't get me going)
If you wanted to be an Officer, you'd have to do about two years on a shipe (like a mine sweep or salvage boat) after Basic Diving Officer training to earn your SWO pin.
In general, EOD training for an officer is not hard to get.
Yes we jump, dive, shoot etc.. though it's not our primary mission- just a vehicle to get us to our mission.
EOD is (in my opinion) much more marketable to the outside world. Many former techs hold jobs with the DEA, ATF, FBI, Secret Service etc...
search the web for "Navy EOD", you'll get some good stuff.
Look at http://www.specwarnet.com/
under US Special OPs/Navy for some good EOD info.
Feel free to ask any other questions here.
Lastly, nobody comes to EOD for prestige, they come to work.

I am not EOD, but help manage their community (enlisted-side). The EOD Officer Community Manager Web Site is here: http://www.bupers.navy.mil/pers2/specops/specopsnew.htm
LCDR "Mac" McClelland is the Community manager, and his phone number and e-mail addresses are listed on the page. Tell him Shaun Chittick sent you!

bmf,
Providing that it isn't too politically sensitive to be commented on in a public forum, I would be interested in hearing your opinion on the "few" females in EOD. Are quotas currently in place?
I understand if this is something that you don't want to touch.
Attempting to "get you started"......

No we don't have quota's for females. There are a few out in the program (guessing about 3-4). I am the wrong person to speak with as I have personal experience working for one of the worst. I try to be open minded but after two hard years it's difficult.
Basically I think the whole idea sucks ass.
Too much feminism, not enough interest in the job. Get the picture?

Just got back to a computer. I agree with everything BMF said, but understand also that you will have very little time (2-4 yrs)as an operational Tech. As an O you are a manager not an operator.

So is it true that I go to SWOS first, then 2yrs on ship THEN on to EOD training?

Yup, that's generally the pipeline. I suppose they want you to understand how the "Navy" works before getting specialized. I think Trident86 could give you all the points of contact to talk with our EOD Officer community manager. I believe it's all on the web though if you just look around. Feel free to ask anything here as well.
