What are the odds of making it in USMC EOD? I had been planing on going into Army Intel, but they did something that I didn't like. I was thinking of going USMC Intel, but decided to go with EOD instead. I am qualified, by my ASVAB score for anything I want, so that won't be a problem. I was told that I couldn't go straight in, but the best MOS to start with was Ammo Tech. They are listed together in the book the recruter and I looked at, so I believe him. I would be grateful for any info you could provide me. Thanks.

You are right, unless things have changed, which I doubt, you have to be a senior Cpl or a Sgt to become eligible for EOD in the Marines. I am not sure how fast the Ammo tech MOS promotes, but you may be looking at 3 to 4 years before you can get that MOS. Furthermore, you also have to be a good Marine, because it is pretty competitive.

You might as well pick an MOS you're going to enjoy for awhile. There's no rule saying you have to be a BB stacker to be a Marine EOD tech. Being an ammo tech is no great help in becoming an EOD tech. The Marine EOD program is pretty cool, including a big focus on inerting ops and their involvment in the MEU(SOC) stuff.
You could also look at the Army EOD program, which allows for off the street entrance into the field. The Navy has also brought brought back the EOD assistants program - designed to shuttle you into the program. If you really want to be a Bomb tech ther are a few ways to skin that cat.

The navy has brought back it's assistant program- but you can come in off the streets and choose to go all the way through tech school as an E-2 now. program is for those not wanting to make the commitment or not able to make it through Air 2.

Saracen, like I said, I'm not going to join the army. The recruters tried to pull something on me, so I just will not. I'm going in as a E-2, because I'm an Eagle Scout. Thanks for the help guys. Are there any MOS's that would prepair me for EOD? Ammo Tech was just what the recruter picked because they were in the same section I think.
