A little history of Force Troops as I remember it.
From 1954 to 1957 I was with Baker Co. 8,th Combat Engeneer Bn, Force Troops, 2nd. MARDIV. At that time all Force Troops were stationed at Camp Gieger.Other units there were Arty, Transport, DUCKS and of course Recon.
With the exception of Recon, our mission was to go in on the 3rd wave during a Amphib. assault
Also at Camp Gieger was the ITR, ( Infantry Training Regement. ) At thet time Boot Camp at P.I. was only 8 weeks long. Those who survived Boot went to the ITR for 4 weeks of basic Infantry training before being sent on to thier perminant duty stations.
Is the ' 2nd front' still there. It is/was right across from the walk through gate on 17 ?
