Combat Medicine is a topic that should never
go undiscussed when dealing with any type of
warfare enviornment. So it shocks me to see
that this forum is practically empty. Please,
if there is any non-medical type people with
questions I urge you to ask, and to all the
medics and corpsmen out there(hoorah hospital
corps) I urge you to help. Combat medics are
key to any warfare platform, and its about
time we get that recognition.

Supercorpsman;
I am also interested in military/tactical medicine, can you give me any insight on how to prepare, prior to enlistment, for the military medical field (PJ,combat medic or corpsman)? Any websites I can go to, or info that you would give me is greatly appreciated. Thank you

Have you had the opportunity to read "Tactical Emergency Care: Military and Operational Out-of-Hospital Medicine" by R. DeLorenzo/R.Porter? Would this be a good reference for my library? Any other book suggestions? Thanks

Supercorpsman:
Seeing as you're so eager to answer questions:
1. Have you seen the SF Medical Handbook? How out of date is the commercially published version?
2. I'm trying to find the standard med-bag kit list for an 18D who has to carry all of his tools on his back. Any suggestions?

N8, I joined the navy with absolutely no medical background whatsoever. After Hospital Corps school and Field medical service school, I was useless, just confused with all the info I had cramned in my head in such a short time. The saying practice makes perfect is so true in my case.
I have no clue what kind of background you have, but if your interested in spec op medicine that you're very well prepared physically, the knowledge will come with time. And one last piece of advice read, read, read the basics(even if you know them inside out).

N8,
Have you read or seen Tactical Emergency Care : Military and Operational Out-Of-Hospital Medicine? I looked it up on Amazon, but could find no other references to it on the net and Amazon had no customer reviews. It sounds interesting, but at $45, I'd like some personal opinions first before I buy. Thanks for the info if you have any, if not, thanks for bringing this book to my attention.

The book "Tactical Emergency Care" will not be a good investment if you want information that is related to actual combat medical care. Most of the book's information can be obtained in any prehospital medicine book. Triage is emphasized but other than that I felt the book was a real waste of money. And tactical medicine course will teach you what you need to know. I think this book was written for the title because it could be sold to SWAT teams for their medical units. It's just one more book on the market that adds to an already too crowded market of useless literature. The only books that are worth much these days are Rosen's Emergency Medicine and Bledsoe's Paramedic Care series.
The latest commercial version is from 1981.
Man this is one from the archives.

just like my lawn, add water comes back to life....Dude, my lawn needs to meet your lawn. The only thing growing in my yard is the crabgrass -- and that shit grows just by seeing a solitary cloud on the horizon....
