A guy at our Cross Fit suggested we take a look at it. It comes to Atlanta in mid-March, so a few buddies and myself are gonna do it.
I was wondering if anyone was familiar with it.

I ran it, along with my team, on May 2 in Bear Creek Mtn, PA which was it's first one. First off, it IS NOT the toughest one day race in the world. Having said that, it was challenging (7 miles up and down a ski slope) and a ton of fun. There were many problems with waiting lines at obstacles which would have pissed me off if we were running for time, and a lot of runners complained about parking etc. Overall it was a great event and fairly well organized for it's first run and I would strongly recommend the race to anyone. My team raised 5,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project which was an honor to do. As far as training...running on your local gyms treadmill will not get it done. Crossfit or a similar progressive circut training routine as well as running hills would be a great way to prepare for it.

Did it today. Nothing like 40 degree water. Parking was awsome and supposedly there were around 7000 participants today . Not too many cloggs, the nj course was 12.1 mile to make up for lack of mountain but they used three sperate motocross track watered to all heck to make for one muddy day!!

Did it yesterday too. That water was NOOOO joke. Mixed with the mid-50's air temp and breeze... not the brightest thing I've ever done.

I was light purple with my team. Around 12:30 heat. I skipped the monkey bars. By that point, I could barely close my hands, and was borderline hypothermic. Knew I was gonna be in trouble if I got wet again.

HAHA! Too true. When I first finished, I was thinking to myself, that I would NEVER do a race like this again. Now... not so sure anymore, especially after the way this particular course kicked my ass. I need revenge.

The Bear Valley one in NorCal seemed like a good idea but the broken ankle from the Bataan Death March ruled it out for this year…….. thankfully

I ran the one in May out in PA. It wasn't hard at all. The only real challenge was the black diamond slope climb. They wanted to make it all muddy. No one would have gotten up it.
I do hope they get harder. They need to be more like the Tough Guy out in the UK.

Everything is relative. To a young man like yourself hoping to go SF, I would hope they were easy. To a dude that got hit by an IED it may not be. The cause is just, the bonding lifelong and at the end of the day, as was told to me on the 20th, "nobody's shooting at us, they're not trying to kill us, all is good". Best of luck in your endeavors.

It appears that this weekend's event was the best yet of the series, improving on deficiencies of the past:

I watched the UK Tough Guy video but didn't see anything in that one that was not in Tri-State Tough Mudder. Except maybe for the manure in the mud. :p http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9dep7RKVVA

That is so true. My senior 18B and junior 18D qualified for the nationals.

I just created team (sexy mudda muckers) and signed up for tough mudder race on mt Snow VT in May 2011. It is 8 miles running up and down Mt snow (lots of verticle climbing) with obstacles to clear like carrying log up expert trail, crossing river on ropes, 60 ft of monkey bars, climb walls, ice, barbed wire, swim under barrels in freezing water from mountain snow run off and stuff like that.... I can't wait.

Is anyone on here doing the Tough Mudder in Vermont in May? Looking at doing it and looking for advice for a possible training program from those that have been there. Thanks

theWookie,
Are you still running a team? If so are you looking for members?

I know it's a long time since you've written this but it's very true. I try to train myself so that events aren't as hard as I make them in my mind. And thank you. I ship to Basic Training and have been working very hard to train myself for SFAS. Running Marathons, Triathlons (up to half Iron mans) and any event deemed torturous enough. From the other posts it seems that they've improved the event.
Getting a team together for the one in Central Texas in October. Right now, looks like myself and another Gov CTR, plus an AF E4 and LT. I'm just hoping we all survive ;-)

It will be a bit until I am able to run one, but if you don't mind, I can put some feelers out there and see what I get? Still have a good amount of friends in the AO.
OK. Team "Truffle Shuffle," is unofficially a "go," for Tough Mudder Texas (Central) in October. I'll register the team on payday, and it'll be official. Anyone interested, let me know, and I'll give you the login information to join the team.

I think there are several other threads talking about the Tough Mudder. I know there is a growing group that is planning on running in October (Wintergreen, VA). We are running under the team name "Odin's Underlings". PM either myself or tawS7 if you want to join us. We have twelve folks signed up with about twenty others that said they are going to join us. Should be a great day.

Just got back from Allentown Tough Mudder. Completed in just under 4 hours. It took apprx a dozen Q tips to get the muck out of me ears, and I think I caused damage to my pooper while sliding down an icy ski slope and was stopped by a rock at the bottom!
Cant wait to do it again! And for those who were there and stopped by the WWP tent, Ranger Jeremy Feldebusch's parents were the ones manning the tent. Ranger F. recieved a serious head injury in April 2003 at Haditha Dam. he has since graduated With a M.A. and is living on his own and engaged to a beautiful Western PA girl who likes to hunt and fish and drink beer! RLTW, and Jeremy is an inspiration to all of us at WWP.
For most if not all of team Truffle Shuffle, this will be our first Tough Mudder. I know at least two of us are going to do the "GORUCK challenge," next year...should be awesome...

Ditto on the ice slide doing some damage. Not the optimal way to glissade.
BOFH,
You'll love the GORUCK Challenge. I'm in B-school with the founder and he's a great dude. I did one in DC if you're interested in any details.
