Hello,

MH3 (not sure about the rate) George Scott Finneral.

He was killed when a helo he was riding crashed in the Persian Gulf in Sept 1991.
The reason that I am inquiring is that someone in his family places a flag with the
NSW (Trident) emblem on his grave each year.
I don't remember the newspaper saying that he
was a SEAL. He was a good athlete, an a great wrestler in High School - so it would not surprise me...just curious.

Thanks in advance.

No one by that name, or anyone even close. How sure are you on the spelling?

Yes, I am positive on the spelling.

I don't know what the deal with the flag is though...

I've been looking thru all of the forums and was curious about this, the man did die in the Gulf so I thought it worth the effort for a web search, I found this...

http://www.amcm.org/hurr16.html

I'd thought it may have been a ships emblem on the flag but didn't find anything, they do have gold wings with an anchor and a set with something else in a disc. In other words, I'm of no help.

Think he mixed the rank of AD3 Finneral with the MH of MH-53 Sea Dragon AMCM Helo http://members.aol.com/mh53e/53hvr.jpg

Seems AD3 Finneral was killed when the Helo went into the Gulf.

Are you sure your not confusing the Trident with Combat Aircrew Wings?

I got that but I mean't that there is no rate desig MH. AD, yes.

Navy does its "MOS" with a letter desig before rank. AD3 means Aviation Machinist Mate Third Class. That was the start of MY confusion.

I am new to this forum and I am sorry to bring up such an old post, but I just happened across it while doing some research on the web.

George Scott Finneral was a close personal friend of mine. In fact we served together in the Navy as aircrewmen in a minesweeping squadron and I had the unfortunate task of attending his funeral. He was a great guy and was as close as a brother to me. He was an AD3 EAWS NAC.

I think the family member that placed the flag at his grave was actually a close childhood friend of his who is a SEAL. While Scott himself was not a SEAL, he had encouraged his friend to join the Navy and died shortly after his friend completed SEAL training. I've no way to confirm this, but if I know Scott, that is the kind of affect he had on people. I lost touch with his family over the years, but they will always hold a special place in my heart and I think of them each year on Scott's birthday which happens to be the same as my oldest neice.

msg-84 , I hope that sheds some light on the subject if you are still around.
