Not looking to get an area study, but if one was to rate the risk level in Ethiopia to westerners would it be high, medium or low?

Thanks in advance.

Ethiopia is a big country so it really depends where you are going.

I would rate Addis as low to medium at worst given that it is a capital city. The Somalis don't care for the Ethiopians especially with their support for the TFG which makes Addis a target for terrorism but the security is pretty good.

There are are areas in the Ogaden which could be considered medium and other areas such as Northeast Ogaden region or the Eritrean border area which could be considered high.

The peace deal with the ONLF has calmed things down as many have laid down their arms but the propaganda coming from the diaspora hasn’t stopped and their information is generally false.

Most of the more dangerous places in the country you will not be allowed to travel without govt permission and often an escort would be required.

I second Jules' input. Especially about the Eritrean border area. I seem to recall some workers from the British embassy being kidnapped and help hostage for a while. Yo Bravodelta, where you at? You should have some good input here...
