Hey Guys, does anyone know what the recruiting process is for BRC currently? Do they still recruit out of SOI or have they opened it up to other MOS's now due to MARSOG? If so, what are these other MOS's-- I'm guessing RadioRecon and others?
A friend is about to join and since I've been out for a bit, I'm not sure how its done presently.
Thanks.

I too have been out a while, but here are a couple of links that may help:

Step 1: Contact MARSOC Recruiting and Screening
Step 2: Attend MARSOC Assessment & Selection
Step 3: Attend the MARSOC Individual Training Course

CSOs are on the front line…and are assigned to MARSOC in operator billets.
These billets are open to Marines from any MOS. However, CSOs must complete the Commanding Officer’s Screening Checklist to include a financial worksheet and security questionnaire, MARSOC Medical Screening Checklist, submit a copy of their Page 11 and Unit Punishment Book (if applicable).
Direct Combat Support (DCS) are those Marines in the following MOSs:
0211, 0212, 0231, 0241, 0261, 0291
0326, 0331, 0341, 0351, 0369
0451
0612, 0619, 0621, 0627, 0629, 0648, 0651, 0659, 0681, 0689, 0699
0861,
2336
2621, 2631, 2651, 2671, 2673, 2674, 2691
5811, 5812
These Marines do not fill operator billets. However, since they are frequently required to deploy alongside Marine Special Operations Teams, DCS personnel must meet the same screening requirements as Critical Skill Operators (CSO), but are not required to attend A&S.
CSS personnel are the active duty and reserve Marines who fill CSS billets within MARSOC.
CSS Marines may have the opportunity to deploy dependent upon mission requirements; however, they are not required to attend A&S.

Here's some info you can give to your friend. Tell him not to let the recruiter bullshit him into anything else if this is what he really wants. The MARADMIN msg ID is below and he should probably bring a copy of it with him when he visits the recruiter (after reading and understanding it thoroughly).
Tell your recruiter that you want the VZ Program to go RECON. If he has no more quotas to sign you up, go to a different recruiter or tell the same recruiter that you are going to wait for another quota to open up!

Also let him know not to focus on the enlistment bonus and that it should be an honor and privilege to serve amongst such men.

Also let him know not to focus on the enlistment bonus and that it should be an honor and privilege to serve amongst such men.Definitely. Don't even consider that if the Corps balks at giving a bonus, that one would look at the SOF units of any of the other services, especially if they offered a bonus. Hell, people should pay the Corps to join....:smile:

There is actually a Facebook page that I was just invited to yesterday that has everything you ever wanted to know about becoming a Recon Marine. From what it looks like it is ran by one of the instructors. MarAdmins, current fitness requirements, a good FAQ page too. I'm at work right now so I'll post it up later. I can't remember the name but I think it had 0321 in it. The profile picture is the Recon Instructor seal.

Have you been drinking that Koolaid you told me not to drink?

MarSoc and Recon are two different animals. The links to MarSoc are not valid for someone just joining. While the initial cadre of MarSoc came from Force Recon the current missions and organization is not like Recon Bn or Force Recon.

Thanks gents, that Facebook page was key. Hard to imagine making a decision without the internet nowadays, haha.
One of the other MOS's he's looking into is MP. Hopefully with this info we can prevent that from happening

Recommend he watches surviving the cut on mil channel (Recon episode)Maybe way too much got cut out so that it would not replicate the AF and Ranger shows, but I thought the coverage of BRC pretty much sucked. I was waiting for the instructors to pick up the faltering Marines' rucks and carry them to the end, what with the cajoling and encouragement being given.
They did throw a lot of CS grenades, though....
