Hey guys
So im coming up on the end of my first enlistment in the navy
Ive been training hard for the past year with the intentions of submitting a package for Navy EOD.
ive been doing a lot of reading and talking lately and becoming interested in Marine Corps Force Recon and Army SF.
Navy EOD would be a lot of fun and the training i would get from such would be amazing but even with the 90k re-enlistment bonus or whatever it is i feel that i might want more action. Plus the idea of being a Marine has always fancied me.

I was hoping to get some input on force recon and green beret. The pros and cons of both.
Any help would be much appreciated as im deployed on the abraham lincoln and cant do as much research as id like from here.
Thanks!

SS, in reverse, hitting both the Recon and SF forums might seem like a good idea, but it really looks a lot like spam. Its just something to consider -- and when you are seeking replies to a general question, you might find answers easier to gauge if they are all inside the same thread.

The idea of being a Marine because it "fancied" you, probably isn't going to be the type of motivation for joining that you will want to depend upon when going through some sort of a selection process -- or worse -- if you don't make it through a selection process and then find yourself doing 3-4 years in a job that doesn't generate that "fancied" idea you earlier thought about.

Navy EOD is probably your most sound direction -- ASSuming that it made sense to move out of your current MOS. I'm not suggesting that you would pass the entry requirements into EOD -- only you and the Navy know that for sure -- but all things considered equal, you might find staying with the Navy to be a better direction in the long-term career focus.

Army SF and Marine Force Recon are not easily comparable. No matter what forums, or books, or stories you might read -- the two gigs are different. The people that make up the two groups are different. The manner in which both orgs are used is different. So it isn't easy to answer which is going to be better for someone.

In both instances, you must pass a selection process to make it into these units, followed by a training process. If you fail out of either, you might not be in a job you wanted -- needs of the Army/Corps, etc. Think about that when you are considering how cool something looks from the outside.

Finally, whatever your decision -- looking for more "action" isn't likely to gain you any points when trying to get through the selection process of either of these two orgs....
