Maybe someone needs to start a "Who is the Real Deal" thread where there is a pic of an Airsofter in their "loadout kit" and a pic of the real Warrior in their kit and we have to ID the Real Deal...win SOCNET Coins and such!

Seriously though, just be glad they accept the fact that they are playing a game and are content with that and not posing as someone who actually served.

As long as it is young people I don't have a problem.

HellI used to dress up in my grandads and dads fatigues to play Army. I am sure we all did it.

Now if the person is in there 20 to 30 like I have caught a few people..Then I have a problem. Young kids ... I enjoy watching them play this.

All of the money spent on that shit could yield them a real AR and 100 rounds of ammo. This is the real shame.

Yep, under 18 years old - no problem. Just kids playing Army like we all did. Me and my buds in 7-9th grade putting on cammies and running around in the woods with our BB guns. Wish we would have had paint pall or airsoft back then!

Over 18, grab your balls and sign up instead of playing. Stop fantasizing about adventure and challenge, from TV, Movies, Video games, airsoft, etc. and go challenge yourself. Does crack me up when I see guys in their 20s and 30s playing Army.

Now older guys doing Cowboy action shooting, well I could probably get into that!

That's the thing, A lot of these guys are 20-30+. There's a place in Oregon were a 6 yr Army reserve dude is training counter IED and Sniper courses, for airsoft.

I played paint ball in old greens, but I didn't through on wings and a bubble and pretend I was someone I wasn't. It looks like a bunch of rich kids in a fantasy world. They can give me $1000, and I'll bring them overseas for a real fantasy experience..

Well you can't let them piss you off like that...and they are still kids after all. I don't think they mean to devalue the honor of serving one's country by playing a game of airsoft. If anything, they're probably appreciating and respecting what these servicemen do by re-enacting it themselves in their 'military war games'. I mean shoot...are you going to have issues with Civil War re-enactment guys because they are 'imitating/impersonating' your 'great great grandfather' who fought in that war? Oh well...anyway there's my two cents and I don't think kids are doing real harm to the military by playing a friendly game of airsoft amongst each other.

For many of us here, we have been to places that most men only read about and done things that other men only dream about. What harm is there in their fantasy. Like I said, as long as they don't get uppity and start to relate their childish fantasy with reality and stay in their lane, I have no issue.

Without sounding like a hypocrite, I am not so sure about the IED training for airsofters, but its their world let them live in it. Just stay the hell out of mine.

That is exactly why I play Airsoft. I am 18, but I cannot enlist yet, and this is the closest I can get to my dream of serving my country in the US Military. I have no illusions that what I am doing is anything but a hobby. And from what I've seen, the only people who go to the extent of kitting up exactly like MARSOC Marines for Airsoft, usually have too much time or money on their hands. That said, the place I go to near my house occasionally has small groups of Marines showing up to play.
Back to the hole I came from...

You are very close to waking up one morning and being a Soldier.

Think of how much better prepared you will be if all your airsoft time is spent doing what very experienced Soldier of SOCNET tell others like you to prepare.

You are close enough I think- act like a Soldier now.

Maybe 80% of airsoft time training and 20% of airsoft time showing the girls how much they will miss you when you are gone.

Good luck!

****Old thread revival warning****

I just saw this and had to laugh. My 12 yo son plays airsoft. He's too young to go by himself or for me to allow him to go with others. So as such I take him when he goes. We get a huge kick seeing the 18yo and up "serious" players set up in full kits. Some of these guys spend thousands on trying to look the part. I'm talking comms, optics(to include night vision), primary/secondary wpn systems, plate carriers, helmets, morale patches...the whole enchilada.

And then comes my son rocking his Tony Hawk t-shirts, Hurley shorts and kicking ass and taking names. It's way too much fun to watch sometimes.

It gets kids outside and gets them to learn a little bit of military history, I'm all for it. I would much, MUCH rather have them spending a few thousand dollars for what is essentially an athletic activity than have them blowing a similar amount of money to play the same games indoors on a computer or a console.

//Caveat, not MARSOC

I play a little bit, a friend got me into it when I got out.

It is funny seeing the fat kid in all the latest cool guy gear and a $1000 M14...and then the couple of Vets in old Woodland, drinking beer and marveling at each other's post ETS beard growth...and then shooting the Cool Guys in the butt while they charge noisily though the woods! I used to play with one of the Haditha Marines, he was actually successful at teaching kids basic Land Nav.

I unfortunately worked at an airsoft specialty shop for a year or so because when I was a teenager i got pretty good at fixing and upgrading the guns and the pay was way more than what I was making before fixing computers. I didn't even play airsoft the whole time I worked there. I ended up quitting that job because I couldn't take the douchebaggery involved with the hobby when the 18+ers get into it. I had a at least 40 year old customer tell me one time how he was recently divorced, in serious debt, and just lost his job and still spent $300 on a new gun that day. I kid you not, there are people with not only $1000 guns and $3000 gear setups, but multiple impression loadouts as well. The guns are kind of fun to play around with if you don't get to handle firearms in your day to day job but investing any amount of money in them is ludicrous. The only time I touch the one airsoft pistol I still own is to scare ground squirrels away from the lawn. They make good film props also.

I just met up with an old bro who has gotten into Civil War reenacting here in VA. He regularly blows that kind of cash on his hobby; when I was busting his ass about it, he laughed and told me, "What's really f-ed up is that we spend most of the morning standing around waiting for directions, and most of the afternoon laying around on the grass after pretending to be shot!"

When are they also going to simulate a night out in Pattaya, Olongopo, or some other exotic locale. Thats part of the military experience right?? Well, teaching 18 year olds to drink, fight and whore may not pass the PC checkpoint. yet on the flipside they could have a mock village with kids bugging them for cash, girls hollering from the bars and street squatters trying to sell overpriced cobras embalmed in mekong rum. Winner is still sober and has his money by the end of the day....

Im with most of you, if it gets the kids out of the house then that is a plus!
Drive down your street and tell me how many kids are outside in the street playing now a days.... maybe one or two tops.

Where I work, there are about 20 correctional officers who do this. Completely unrelated to work. They are part of some larger club. There were adults and kids. All the gear, rifles, everything. Lots of $$ invested in this stuff. No different than paint ball really.
They asked me once if I would come out to one of their "training days" and teach them some CQB tactics. They wanted a bus assault course actually.
When I went out, they are all very respectful. Some were very open about the fact they they missed the boat and never joined the miltary but wished they would have. The others used it as a fun way to stay in shape and just enjoy learning tactics. The kids were all very excited about getting to join the military some day or wanting to be cops.
I just look at it as a hobby. For the guys who are the real deal (SWAT in my case) I wasnt the slightest bit offended. These were guys who were pretty open about the fact that they realized to late in life that they had chosen the wrong career and were just trying to have fun outside of the office cubical.
Now, where mom and dad get the money to buy this stuff???!!! Wow....several of these people, kids included, had $1000 weapons and probably $1500-$2000 in gear. A lot of them had real AGOC sites, SureFire tac lights and lasers. Many had NVGs. It was pretty wild.
If I hadnt taken the course in life that I had....Id probably be one of them:)

My daughter will be three next month and she LOVES to play outside and I figured that was every kid at this age. We alternate with some friends once a month to host a breakfast/play date for the kids and their little boy didn't want to play outside, he only wanted to play Wii.

Come to find out they limit their son to an hour of consecutive Wii playing a couple times a day so they can get some quiet time. My mind was blown.
