A family member has been offered a position with ITT Systems in Afghanistan. Right now he doesn't have much detail about the job, so I told him I would put out some feelers and see if anyone had experience with ITT or could shed some light on what he might expect. His background is as an IT professional (obviously) and systems engineer. Anyone dealt much with them?

My experience with ITT was as an outsider. I've worked in places where they had the IT contract, and I've worked with a number of dudes who used to be with ITT. Basic gist is: overall, they have been happy with the company, for gigs overseas. The pay is not as great as some of the other companies, but ITT seems to be a lot less hassle to work for, so maybe it evens out. I do know, though, that the guys in HOA, for instance, made as much there as I make in San Antonio...hope the pay is MUCH better in Astan.

I worked with some people who had jumped over to the company I was with in Iraq from ITT for better pay.
They're a grown up company w/ real benefits etc. They have an SSO, they'll sponsor your clearance w/ out fucking it up, etc.
But as far as the nuts and bolts of the job - could be anything.
Pay seemed to be "better than what you make in the states" but not hand over fist crazy money - since they were performing general IT support work, I think there is a bit of a wage ceiling.

ITT is a very big company with a global presence in several different areas ranging from physical security to sattelite and space craft maintenance..
They offer very competitive benefits packages.. and reasonable wages (definately not top drawer wages).. my experience with them is that they are very performance driven and expect alot of their employees.. but that they also reward those that work hard and do good things..
They have a large presence in the CO Springs area.. the guys that work supporting their contracts out there work some of the longest hours and push out one of the highest volumes of work of group I know of in DOD contracting..
but.. they are also some of the happiest people I know in the business.. they all seem to love their job, and appear to really like the team they are working with..
Many of their contracts are very long term agreements (10+ years), so unlike other companies where you may have to do some bouncing around to stay employed.. there are alot of ITT guys that have been on just one or two contracts their entire careers..

Brought this thread to the attention of a former co-worker who currently does IT for them in Afghanistan. Up to him if he contacts you via PM or not.
