Damn, Rest easy ol hoss.
You have left a large hole in SOCNET and I’m sure a larger one in peoples lives. I never met you and yet I feel loss and will miss your counsel.

Dogwelder 15 May 2016 17:03

RIP SOTB. It says something when the loss of somebody you never met can leave you filled with sadness. I greatly enjoyed reading his thoughts on the myriad of topics discussed and learned a lot from them. My condolences for his family and friends.

RIP Andy, and thank you for your service

Always Jolly 15 May 2016 17:08

Vaya con Dios Andy.

Fair skies and a tailwind dude.

Macka 15 May 2016 17:16

I had a question not too long ago about something and I knew Andy dealt with this particularly subject. I PM'd Andy (thats when learned his "name"...lol). He answered back quickly. Provided me the info I needed to help a relative to make an informed decision. He insisted I forward his personal contact info to my relative with instructions for either of us to call him if there were any problems.

Can't ask for much more.

RIP Marine!!!

Opened up SOCNET today in Charlotte while waiting on a connecting flight. What a fucking shock. Those of you that knew him personally, I'm deeply sorry for your loss. I'm going to miss the man.

Colonel Flagg 15 May 2016 19:07

I read his posts over many years with great interest and always gave the appropriate heavy weighting to them.

RIP Andy/SOTB.

Xenonburnout 15 May 2016 19:18

Rest in Peace Andy/SOTB. Never met you but enjoyed your personality through your posts. Semper Fi Marine.

Stopp700 15 May 2016 19:21

Has anyone started a fund for Andy's daughter/final expenses? Please let us know.
I always looked forward to seeing SOTB in a forum, read his remarks first before anything else.
I will dearly miss him.

WTF.

PSYOP ROB 15 May 2016 19:31

RIP SOTB, you will certainly be missed around here

Silverbullet 15 May 2016 19:38

Please keep this thread on target in celebration/ rememberance of a life well lived.

SOCNET always takes care of its own and other issues will be addressed later, as needed. Thanks

Ex-PH 15 May 2016 19:51

Like quite a few of us in this thread, I never knew Andy outside of his posts here, but, it was pretty obvious that he managed to squeeze at least 10 lifetimes into his short time on earth.

RIP SOTB, your insight will be greatly missed.
The world, and especially SOCNET, lost a great man today, my friend, Andy Potts aka SOTB.

I don't remember my first interaction with Andy. SOCNET search has too many hits with him calling me on something, or agreeing with something, for me to get back farther than 2012.

Snip

Until we meet again. Semper Fi, RIP and Fuck Cancer.

Your pal, KidA
Powerful post.

I remember when Andy and I met you for first time. He was in town and we had a small SOCNET link up in Old Town. None of the BTDT's had a kitchen pass (whipped) and you and Baildog said you would come by. Jimbo may have done a quick fly by and split to go "work out", but I can't remember.

I had recently spent a week arguing with you over coal mining or some other touchy feely cause you expoused back then while I was on a job in Nigeria or another garden spot and he was in from a trip to Afghanistan.

Resigned to my fate of meeting up with the SOCNET lefty I dutifully showed up with Andy to wait for you.

While waiting the conversation goes something like this.
Me "how will we know him?"
Andy "he'll be the gayest dude in here"
Me "gayer than Sharky or just normal gay like Pirate Mike?"
Andy "no ones gayer than Sharky and I think he's taller than Pirate Mike so he probably has to take a knee to do the deed"
Me "dude this Old Town, that could be anyone"

Luckily a text came in from you saying you had arrived. To no ones surprise in walked this skinny dude wearing black leather pants looking a bit skittish. I knew it was you right away. Andy whispers "shit, he's gayer than Sharky".

Turns out you were GTG and once we got you to stop speaking Latin the night picked up. I considered smashing a chair over your head to uphold the stereotype people have from here, but let it go. Andy being Andy nursed one beer all evening and then tried to give away the remaining half.

That was a good night and I know Andy valued your friendship.

MixedLoad 15 May 2016 20:39

You're going to be missed, Andy.

Rest in Peace, Brother, and Fuck Cancer.
