Well today wasn't my day, after four years off from the distance. Ran a 3:54 and change at the LA Marathon, after doing an honest train up for a 3:15-3:20. Everything was going great, until it wasn't. Wheels fell of at mile 20.
I'll be scratching my head on this one for a while. Got all the long runs in, good data from 3 long races, followed my tried-and-true 6 month plan, saw the chiropractor and got a massage last week, etc. Highlight of the day was my wife running a great time, and meeting up with some good friends in the community. Just about, CAP. The course recorded splits at 10K, 20K, 30K, 40K, and at the finish. My final 10K took well over an hour, and there was more walking than running taking place then.
This was my eighth marathon, and I've never shut down so hard at the end. I was running my plan 'easy' to 10, and stayed in check to 20, then... Like I said, my wife rocked out there. |
