RIP Domenic D'Ambra III

It is with great sadness that we pass along the news of SFC Domenic (Dom) D'Ambra III passed away May 12, 2012. He graduated from the Q in 2007 and has honorably served in 1st SFG (A). For reasons unknown and currently under investigation, it appears that Dom took his own life this last week. He was a great person, a brother-in-arms and a warrior. His passing is tragic and frustrating for all of us. I do know he will be missed.

What we endure in this lifestyle... and the amount of pain one must feel to see only one solution.

RIP my little brother

I knew Domenic as a PFC and was one of his first team leaders when he was a cherry at Fort Hood. He was a soldier that I was always proud of. When he re-upped to leave Fort Hood and went on to Fort Drum, we stayed in contact. Later on, when I was stationed at Fort Benning, Domenic came down from Drum to attend Ranger and Airborne schools and spent that Thanksgiving with me. I was there at his Ranger school graduation and you have no idea how proud I was of him and his accomplishments and I dropped him off at airborne school that same day. 3 weeks later, I attended his graduation of that school. He kept in touch with me, told me about going to SFAS and his eventual selection...kept in contact with me through the Q-course. Every other month or so, one of us would ring up the other just to shoot the shit and catch up.

I hadn't been able to get ahold of him for about a year. I just thought the op-tempo might have been high and he was overseas or something. A mutual friend told me about what happened last week and man it hit me hard. I've since shed many tears for my friend and will remember him always.

Goodbye Domenic, you were a true BAM'FER and a true friend. You will be missed

I am the captain of my soul.

This kind of thing happened to me a lot right after I retired in 2003. I'd run into/talk to a guy and ask about someone. The reply would be "Damn man, didn't you hear?" It got to a point where I was almost afraid to ask about guys anymore. It sucked.

RIP Brother. Sorry for your loss.

I hear you man.

I try to keep in touch with most guys I have worked with over the years through facebook, as much as I don't like having my PI out there on the net I really value having contact with all those guys.

I check in from time to time to see who is still around and who isn't.

RIP
