I got mine last year. Totally worth the effort. Be advised, not every park has them; IIRC, if a park charges for access or camping, they should have them available.

I got mine about 6 years ago. A huge money-saver; the only downside is that they don't work when a concessionaire runs something in/for the park. For instance, parking at Mt. Rushmore is a concession, so the pass doesn't work there.

It will also allow access to areas marked; National Wildlife Refuge. There is a lot more of these than Parks.

Got ours for the trip out to see Jellystone.

Top one in the picture is the one LP is referring to, bottom is for when she is done with me.

I picked up the Access Pass a couple years back. Good for life, and all access to National Parks and recreation areas. Make sure to check your state for state park bennies. Texas has a similar program for vets.

I've had my Access Pass since 05, when I first got rated and happened to be at the Dept of the Interior HQ and found out about it.

Best deal ever.

Saw this earlier today. Can I do this with my initial VA letter of disability? it does not say anything about permanance.

Me too. I just took my VA letter to the closest NP that charged admission. You can also get the access passes from other outdoor agencies; USFS, BLM, etc. Here's a link to a PDF on the USGS site purporting to list all the locations where you can get the pass. It's a few months old, so it may not be 100% up-to-date.

There is a 10 dollar charge if you apply online, free if you go in person, I'm cheap and killed two birds with one stone by visiting the Ding Darling Reserve.

WV does this every year. 10% discount at all State Park Facilities, cabins, etc.

A little late for post but from 1-15 Nov Veterans can purchase a 50% on same services and use year round.

I did mine at the local forest service office. Took about 5 mins and I got to chat with a little hottie while doing it. Winning. Saved me a bunch of money in Alaska this summer.

60% =/+ rating for a Texas discount as I remember it. TX State parks are closed now though. I didn't read details or when they'll reopen.

Alabama has some for the Vets at their parks but they don't advertise. I did not find out till my wife got the spot and I went up to get my pass. The lady behind the wind said it would have been free if I would have gotten the slot instead of her.
