RIP, gentlemen. OJC was the first US Military Operation I remember. I remember seeing pictures of US troops on the cover of my Weekly Reader in 5th Grade.

I think I still have some 550 cord from Rio Hato.

We (7th ID) airlanded there some time after the 75th jump, to
secure the airhead. The next morning I took a walk along
the jungle side of the airstrip and came across chutes.
Couldn't resist stuffing my cargo pockets with shroud lines
--figured if I didn't, the locals would, anyway

At one end of the strip there was a bus, back end stuffed
with AKs stacked from floor up to the window line, and
crates of loaded mags. Our S2 figured it was a mobile
arms room for the dignity battalions. Near the bus were
several big (20' radius, 2-3' high) of scrapped/unserviceable
small arms--Taiwan AR copies with broken buttstocks,
assortments of other stuff, even a Thompson or two.

There was a warehouse next to all of it, with crated
munitions and weapons. Stacks of stuff..saw an open
case of grenades. Everyone was tempted, ha!

Well. Here we are again.

29 Years ago at 0103 I put my knees in the breeze as JM on the R Door of Chalk # 3.

Still got the 20 rd mag from my A2. Complete with the same 100 mph tape on the bottom. Loaded straight tracers in that bitch marking targets for my 3 gun tms.

We brought some scunion on the 8 vehicles we deadlined trying to enter the Airfield gate.

Good times.

RIP for those who gave all.

Good pics. The bottom one is Patilla Airfield. A 1/75 relieved a Seal Tm (4 ?) there the next day. They were not in a pleasant mood for good reason.

I spent Christmas that year at that Airfield. Chicken & rice made by the locals.

RIP Brothers.

Lest we forget..........

Got this from Jose Gordon on facebook where He posts a lot.

At this time 29 years ago today, 3/C had consolidated on Objective Pig (2nd Rifle Company Barracks - at the Torrijos International Airport and Military Complex). We were re-organizing for follow-on combat operations. We had suffered 1 KIA (PFC Jimmy Markwell) and several WIA, and had taken the target after a night Combat Parachute Assault and 6.5 hours of sustained fighting. In that moment when we were in our Platoon CP planning with Harvey Moore, Mark Campbell, Sean Card, Ronnie Orosz and Tom Donovan I had the opportunity to look around and survey what we had accomplished. I was in awe as I looked at my men and realized that just a few hours ago, they were kids...and now they are men. In their first foray into answering our NCA's call and solve a strategic problem. Just 38 men took on a Company of well trained, specially selected enemy Soldiers and won. As I think back to that moment as we were assaulting the target, I couldn't think of a single instant where any of these young men faltered, delayed, stalled or thought twice before doing anything I told them to execute or anything they took the disciplined initiative to do...that night/morning, I witnessed the History the Regiment enjoys today being made by Titans who have since gone on to become, General Officers, Command Sergeant's Major, Industry Professionals, successful father's and husbands...it's hard to predict how one man will act in the face of death, but it's even harder to expect 38 Spartan's to all face almost certain death and NOT ONE fail each other...I was one lucky man to have led such men...God Bless them all!!!

I remember landing on the left side of the Airfield (West?) and running across the strip to the ditch shown in the second to bottom picture as that was our rally point. Amazing how fast you can hustle when the adrenaline is flowing!

Landed center line on the runway at T2. Hit hard, feet, ass then head. Add to insult, my chute landed on top of me. I was a mess. Felt like a door bundle with my 90 and 2 heat rounds in my ruck. Honored to be part of Regiment on this mission. RLTW!

That gave me a chuckle...Thanks.

The JM in the other door (SFC Jose Gomez) bumped canopies w/me all the way to the ground. We landed about 10 f'ing feet from each other. I heard him grumbling over there. Same shit happened to him. To add insult to his predicament...I done what the 1SG said. Pop both of those canopy releases, put your wpn into operation and scadaddle. You can fight w/the pack tray on & ditch that bitch later. My canopy double fucked him he was so close. I had to help him outta that shit before I took off.

You gotta admit...that's some damn good hustle from those sticks and JM timing.

My canopy landed on me as well, it was a true shit show in my world for a few minutes. Kept waiting to be hacked up with a machete or something before i could get out from under it.

Regretted pillaging the ASP at Sabre hall when i hit that ditch on the obj side of the runway....
