Both my wife and I agree with her. One point she left out of her article that would have made it a bit more complete. Look at when a woman vs man reaches their physical peak. Women reach it in their late teens early 20s. Men reach their physical peak in their late 20s early 30s. Physically we continue to get stronger and heal quicker during the critical and most physical parts of our careers. By the time a female Officer would reach her platoon she is already on the backside of her peak and starting the downslide we all felt during our 30s. All the guys I have served with were faster and stronger in their early 30s then when we were FNGs... Just my 2c...

Cool your jets, killa. That's a sacred SOCNet question...

AND I'll bet that there are just as many, if not more, female officers in the Army that meet the standards as in the USMC, just I suspect there are nearly the same percentage of slugs for both Services.

Try to remember, this day after the Fouth of July, that Servicemembers make up just .87% of the population...

I had much the same experience at the Career (SSgt) and Advanced (GySgt) NCO courses. Some of the male students started carrying female students' packs and gear when they gave up after the first ten minutes of a ruck march. I refused to do it, so I was an asshole and a "one-way". I was usually one of the few, if not the only, infantry types in the course. Good thing I didn't care what a bunch of clerks, cooks, and IT specialists thought

^^^ Yup...I think I was one of 3 Infantry-types in a class of about 50...and I was the JERK for telling her to suck it up. I did however end up carrying most of her crap...What was I going to do, let the aviation airframe inspection specialist look like he could carry more gear than me???

Her 1RMs were when she was at the top of her game as a collegiate hockey player...but honestly those numbers aren't at all impressive for the average 17-21 y/o male, much less for one who has undergone any kind of physical conditioning.

Not knocking the Captain in any way, just pointing out the disparity in what is reasonably expected from males and females.

I wonder if she already had an exit plan in mind when she submitted the article to the MCG.

The following should come as no surprise to many of you:

Quote:
Both volunteers in a study to see if women could become Marine ground combat leaders have dropped out of the rigorous Infantry Officer Course
I applaud them for trying.

I agree completely with the Captain. I am sorry even when I was in the best shape of my life, I could not keep up in the field with males. But I can say that I never cried. Of course most females do not have the luxury of being stationed with a sibling that would have throttled me had his Marines found out I cried.

Both female Marine Officers in this IOC class dropped out.

IIRC one didn't pass the "IOC Indoc" and the other due to a medical reason.

Welcome, GournetMarine. Nice to have a female Marine's perspective on the Board.

Thank You. I might not be the opinion you want. I of course have been out a long time. But I have a niece on active duty in the Corps and a niece at the acadmey. The Marine Corps has changed quite a bit since I was in. I am still friends with a couple of females I went to boot camp with who are now Senior Staff NCO's. And my brother just retired in June after 26 years.

And of course I was a dependent for many years. So I have seen several things change. I think the Captain should be commended for saying what most of us females who have served think. Please do not get me wrong I think women have a place in the Military. But just not with a Grunt unit. I really think that males do not need any additional stress while in combat. I personally do not want someone to worry when they have a foul mouthed tirade that when you get back someone (female) was offended by your language. Men need to be MEN. We are not MEN we do not get you. Most women never realize that men are pretty easy to get along with if you follow five basic steps.
1. Feed Them
2. Allow them their weird guy time that they need with their guy friends.
3. Make sure that they have clean clothes, clean house
4. Allow them do have their weekly allotment of sports, hunting or fishing.
5. GIVE THEM LOTS AND LOTS of SEX

Pretty Basic like taking care of a pet.
