Marine Corps Legend Col. Bruce Meyers

Colonel Bruce Meyers passed on 7 Aug 2017. Col Meyers was a legend in the Marine Corps and particularly in the Force Reconnaissance community as the former Commander of Test Unit-1 and the first CO of 1st Force Reconnaissance Company. He pioneered insertion/extraction techniques including sub-surface lockouts from submarines, various parachuting techniques including parachuting from the bomb bay of an A-4 Skyhawk (pictured). He was also one of the architects of implementing "Stingray" missions in VN. I was privileged to meet Col Meyers many times and when I was in charge of the Recon Schoolhouse in Coronado I would regularly have Col Meyers as our guest speaker/ Guest of Honor. His talks with the graduating students were always fascinating and the newly minted Recon Marines knew they were talking to a Man among Men. His accomplishments are many, too many to list here and his mark on Marine Corps Reconnaissance will endure for many years. Rest in peace sir, you did your duty and you did it well. Fortune Favors the Brave!

3 Pics: 1-At the Reconnaissance Memorial at the USMC in 2010, Col Meyers was 85 y/o at the time and still looked like he could kick some ass. 2- Book cover from Fortune Favors the Brave where he was locking out of a Sub. 3- In freefall after jumping (falling) from the bomb bay of an A4. A great man, Valhalla is now stronger. True pioneer and trailblazer.

As an aside, look at the ground in the freefall picture. Not leaving much room for malfs! Balls of titanium...

My Drill Instructor was MGySgt James (Jim) W. Hager USMC (Ret.), 1st Force Reconnaissance Co. Vietnam (1964-1994). Do the timelines sync-up at all, 'in passing' that is?
