Just built a new AR lower this weekend... now trying to figure out which oddball upper to build.. either going big bore (458 SOCOM, 450 bushmaster, or 50 beauwolf).. or mid bore (6.5 Grendel, 6.8 SPC)...

Decisions decisions...

I think I just won the trap of the odd round competition for the day...

I just traded into a .585 Huble...

190ft lbs of recoil! (A hot 308 in a typical bolt action produces about 18 )

Glock 31 in .357 Sig. I don't shoot it anymore because of the tiny amount of stockpile I have for it.

Interesting. Mauser action? Moderate handloads sound actual fun, like a giant cast bullet thrower. S/F....Ken M

1917 Enfield action.

My plan is to load it to about 2200 FPS with 650gr bullets and stop there...

Going to max capability, pushing 750gr about 2800 FPS ain’t going to happen on my watch

You're still a glutton for pain. Ive never heard of some of the rounds you talk about and look them up.

Yes. You certainly won.

I got in touch with the guy that designed/developed the .585 Hubel and asked what he thought a decent starting/plinking load for the rifle would be..

he recommended 155grains of Reloader 50 under a 650gr projectile..

I am in sooooooooo much trouble lol...

That sounds odd. I know RL-15 is a nice powder for duplicating the old Cordite British stuf, Ross Seyfried used to write about it. S/F....Ken M

RL17 is one of the powders being recommended if I want to speed things up a bit...

I think the deal is this sucker has so much case capacity and you pretty much have to fill to 90% to keep it reliable.. so the only way to slow down velocity, reduce recoil, etc is to go with slower powders...

H50BMG was another “plinking” powder that was recommended lol...

Take a lesson from the cast bullet guys and the old 45-50 cal buffalo calibers; use Dacron, straight walled cases, no big deal. Between the burlap for ghillie suits and the Dacron for 43 Mauser loads, the girls at the Minnesota Fabric were kinda sweet on me. S/F....Ken M

If it's still there in 2 weeks, I will be too.
I've got a NEF single shot break open .45-70 my dad bought back in the mid 90s. 16" barrel. I don't find the recoil on it to be very bad at all (though I am a bit... thicker than most people) apparently neither did my dad who was a monster Texan at 5'3" and a buck-60. I also have NEF single shot breaks in .410 and 10 guage, the 10 guage is one of few guns that has ever made me recoil shy.

Stopped at the local gun shop. In 20 min I saw at least a half dozen people being led around by an employee to buy ammo for their new purchase. As I stood listening I hear the employee telling a guy he grabbed he wrong ammo. He bought a .45 and grabbed .45 gap. He asked the employee what the difference was. The employee said that .45 gap is a “dumb round” and he “doesn’t know why they ever made it” . I Couldn’t help laughing out loud thinking of TFG. Both the customer and employee looked at me.
