Angry Incompetent

VA is the most incompetent. Waited in waiting room over 45 minutes late for appointment I had. Then when I finally was called, they discovered they made the appointment for the wrong department/specialist. Idiots!

I am done with the VA. Just take care of myself and/or let nature take it's course.

Talk to patient advocate and log a complaint to the IG. You can also call VIZN( sp?) I got good results with VIZN 1 which covers New England.

I had my VA doc questioning me once about how I was recovering from my spleen removal. Somehow it had gotten into my med record that I wrecked a motorcycle and had my spleen removed. I assured him I did not own a motorcycle and did have a complete spleen. The level of incompetence at the VA no longer shocks me. It should, but that ship has sailed.

The VA misdiagnosed my skin cancer. Said not to worry just normal aging. My wife calls bullshit and sends me to a dermatologist who within 5 seconds said "its some type of cancer but we need a biopsy to see what kind." I shit canned the VA doc the next day and raised nine kinds of hell with the patient advocate.

I use the VA for a blood test and maybe a bandaid. Anything else I'm going to a real doctor. The VA is a total crap shoot.

I've found that there are assholes outside the VA also.

When I got my determination, they kept my entire disability check until I paid back my SSB. I paid it back and they sent me a letter stating as much. Then, Big Army says, Hey we need to collect your SSB, but we'll ask the VA if they did it. Of course they never sent the paperwork to DFAS. You just cannot get there from here. I started calling to coordinate in June and still no joy. It truly is unbelievable how totally fucked up some .gov organizations can be.

Yeah. I called it many years ago with them. You think they would mention something about nodules in your lungs on an x-ray. Nah. I had to read the x-ray report and find it myself. WTF?

I just took the x-ray to my then civilian doc. I had a PET scan within a week. All checked out good but fuck me.

Remember that joke about “what do you call the person who graduates last in his class at Medical school? A Doctor. “. Well, they forgot to add that he/she is probably the one who gets a job at the VA. “Don’t worry, if you are a doctor and proven incompetent, or under review, you can always get a paycheck at the VA”.

New VA motto:

“The VA, providing jobs to doctors, especially if from India or Africa, who can’t get jobs anywhere else since 1968.”

I've never even seen a VA doctor. Every time I've gone there it was always a PA. Even my supposed personal physician at the VA has been nothing but a rotating roladex of PAs, never seeing the same one twice because they come and go like migrating birds.

Whether intentional or not, the institutional paradigm of the VA is to keep putting off your problem until you die or go somewhere else in frustration. The only reason I suspect that might not be intentional is that whatever the VA says they are trying to do always winds up in an epic fail, but their endemic incompetence is truly consistent and dependable, two characteristics missing from everything else the VA does. Stupidity and fecklessness are easier to believe than a conspiracy, which could only be sustained by the application of effort not evident elsewhere within the institution.

Nor have I - literally. I have been going to the same GP for over 20 years. He knows everything about me medically - up-to and including how I think. That is priceless and worth the money for my own insurance. I went through enough with my grandparents to know that I would never use the VA for anything.

Nobody at the VA is out to get me. Nobody at the VA is out to help me. Acceptance is a big part of the battle. Thank God I have Tricare as a retiree.

Yes. I refuse to spend any of my time there. I went once, and got blown off. I have a 90% disability rating. I am so sick of bureacracy that it's easier to swallow the occasional snarky civilian twit over the complete incompetance of the VA.

I had some problems when my wife passed away, with DFAS you have to talk to the right person when you call an get Transferred, 5 or 6 times.

The main problem is you sent your paper work to one section.
It is put into the computer system BUT does not show up in all section, that need it. You have to file the paperwork with 3,4 different departments.

I am lucky I have had the same Doctor for two (2) years now. About time for a change soon.

Iíve had poor experience with my VA primary care so I just use Tricare which I am thankful for. VA is good for requesting pills and having an annual exam done but thatís about it

Has anyone noticed that the Military Treatment Facilities that serves Active Duty and Retirees are outsourcing Retirees more and more to Civilian Treatment Facilities? This creates a Co-pay for Retirees?

I outsourced myself by going with Select. It was too restrictive to stay with Prime on post. Hard to get appts and the need for referrals to do anything - even OBGYN. How insane is it that a visit to the GYN is considered specialty care and thus a higher copay per visit.

Not sure if you have dental coverage? Did you enroll in a dental plan? Your TRICARE dental and medical benefits are separate benefits. To gain coverage, you need to enroll in a dental plan and health care plan separately
