Assistant Fire Safety Officer

Silverbullet Approved

Seeking an Assistant Fire Safety Officer to serve aboard the museum ship USS YORKTOWN in Charleston harbor, South Carolina. We are a State Agency and applicants must apply online through the link below. This is a good opportunity for perhaps a younger former service member who has been trained in TCCC, been a junior NCO, and has familiarity with Microsoft Office programs. Although the position may imply Fire Fighting- we're not necessarily looking for those skills. An organized person, with medical training, who can think and operate independently is far more important. Depending on qualifications the starting salary may vary but generally speaking $30,000 to $35,000 / year. Yes, itís not a great salary but there is a healthcare plan, retirement system, and 30 days of leave per year.

Will serve as the Assistant Supervisor of the Fire Watch Unit. Provides overlapping coverage for fire watch and medical requirements as required during the duty day and when there are overnight campers onboard the Yorktown. Responds to fire alarms and emergency medical calls, administers first aid and CPR as situation dictates. Will conduct regular record updating and maintenance under the direction of the Fire Safety Supervisor. Provide assistance to the Overnight Camping staff and Public Safety staff on a not-to-interfere basis with primary duties. Conduct fire drills for the overnight campers staying onboard the Yorktown.

Maintains the automated tracking system for all required monthly and annual inspections, testing, replacements, and documentation of portable fire extinguishers, emergency lights, exit signs, and egress markings. Catalogues all identified safety and emergency deficiencies to assist with tracking and correcting until rectified. Maintains inventory documentation of the First Aid room on the Yorktown to ensure proper stockage levels. Maintains accurate employee accident reports and guest accident reports and provides trend analysis when identified.

Monday through Friday, 1000 to 1830 (hour for lunch).
