Labrum Tear Advice

Back in June, I was about 2 weeks out from deploying. Finishing up the final paperwork before heading to Texas to train, then overseas.

Felt three tears occur at the gym on a Saturday. Sunday, I looked down and couldn't see my feet because so much blood had pooled into my right groin area. Go to the VA Hospital and it's so swollen, they can only do a CAT scan to tell if its strangulated and infarcted. To my grunt mind, I guess that meant life threatening.

6 Weeks later the VA gets me in to my MRI. You know its bad when the PA turns to you and says, "The good new is you tore your adductor." Ok doc, the bad news? As soon as I heard "Lab" I said oh shit. The labrum. She nodded. Great, nice career ender. Immediately notify my contractor and tell them about my lovely non-deployable status ... to be undetermined.

The VA claims they don't want to do surgery because there's a 50% chance in the hip it will make it worse. They didn't even want to touch me until October 1st (4 months later)! No PT, nothing. Then they call and tell me the doc can't make it the 1st and push me back to the 30th.

So here's my question. Has anyone here tore their labrum in their hip before and can give me their personal view. I'm pissed because most likely I won't be able to do contracting. I'm 40 and now with this damn injury, I'd just like to get to the point where I can move without pain.

I'm in pain everyday. The only reason why I don't pop the Oxy during the day time is because I need to function and don't want to become addicted. So I just use it at night to help me sleep with reasonable pain.

Has anyone gone the surgery route and had success?

Do you have insurance, or only VA? You need a second opinion. Surgery is almost always (I never say "always" and "never") indicated, and outcomes are almost always pretty good.

Yeah I hear you guys. Unfortunately the only thing I have right now is my VA coverage.

I had to get a desk job stateside, but my insurance doesn't kick in for Caesars for a bit and their coverage doesn't cover anything until I hit my deductible. Then they jump in. Go figure.

I had surgery about 14 months ago. I noticed a small improvement in pain (still have a dull ache). I have reduced range of motion but nothing extreme.

If you have any specifics feel free to pm me.

I had an existing tear that I apparently made worse this summer. It was distinctly unpleasant. I go under the knife in two weeks. Good luck with everything.

I just had a labral repair and femoral head reshaping. There are some serious advances in this area, and you're doing yourself a great disservice if you don't go to a reputable surgeon who is using the newest methods and rehab protocols.
