Get Smart

Just found out Don Adams, Agent 86, was a Marine who served in the Battle of Guadalcanal, and later was a Marine Drill Sergeant. Cool.

One of my favorite shows to watch during my childhood.

Agent 99.......

I often think of the guys I worked with, in a machine shop in Brooklyn. When Pearl Harbor occurred, they all enlisted. Pretty much all of NY enlisted. I guess that included Don Adams. In those days NY was super patriotic.
Don Adams was pretty funny and Get Smart was a good show. Although nowadays, I may root for "Chaos" rather than "Control".
Agent 99, Ginger and Maryanne, can be thanked for teenaged boys having a rich fantasy life...

OK, so according to his 2005 obituary in the New York Times he enlisted in the Marines at 16 by lying about his age, deployed to Guadalcanal but contracted black water fever and almost died. Another source (below) then says he served as a Drill Instructor (which is what Marines have) and NOT a Drill Sergeant (which is what the Army has).

BTW, agents of CONTROL fought against agents of KAOS.

My kids loved Get Smart and have watched the entire run about 1.5 times through. My oldest even went as 99 this last Halloween.
