I'm also sorry for your loss. Your dog was loved and you gave her as much life as you could so take some consolation in that. My wife and I had to have our 13 1/2 year old sheepdog put to sleep last Tuesday. Fluid was building up in her lungs and abdomen and we knew it was her time. This was our third sheepdog loss in the last 13 months. It does help to have a 10-month old pup at home to assume the old girls front door guard and cat herding duties.

When the VA sends you to the wrong facility (56 miles away). Then the wrong facility tells you the correct facility is 60 miles away. When you arrive at the correct facility they tell you "Sorry, you missed your appointment. You'll have to reschedule".

I lean on the counter of the recepti-fuck and say as politely as possible "This is the reason veterans get so pissed off at the VA, and why we have a '22 a day' problem."

That is exactly why I do not do anything with the VA. Fcuk the hassle. I will pay for my own health care until I can no longer afford to.

Wildfires suck.

The VA in Wichita (Robert J. Dole facility) was awesome, and handled everything in a professional and timely manner. I was dreading coming back to the ATL VA system. It is the epitome of what most people think of when it comes to apathetic clusterfuck of governmental organizations. I was on hold for at least 1.5 hours during the six transferred calls yesterday, just trying to get back into the ATL system.

I moved back to GA late Dec, and went to the local VA that I was assigned to when I lived here before. The old guy at the intake desk verified that I was in the system and good to go. Flash forward to a couple of weeks ago, I go into the same clinic for a multitude of issues (I let stuff compound before get med help, rather than go for little stuff). The same guy at the intake desk tells me they’re not taking any new patients. When I say they told me I was in the system as a patient at this clinic, he says “Who told you that?” I immediately respond “You did. Specially you...in January.” The look on his face was one of complete and utter fuck up. SMFH

Just because you are in the system does not mean that you are their system to be seen. What the individual should have had you fill out a form to be in that system location. 99% he could have done. A change of address phone number etc. then have all your recorded transferred from the V.A. you were last seen at.

IF the individual knew what he was doing it would have taken about 10 min. to get you transferred back to that V.A.

Go to Release of information an have your records transferred From your last V.A. location to your current location. just to be on the safe side of things.

Each V.A. fall under a VISTA # like Vista 20, or Vista 21 these are the different locations of that V.A. they only handle a certain area an can not access other V.A. Locations out of their Vista # i.e. Sacramento V.A. can not connect to Los Angles V.A. system only Atlanta, GA main computer system.

This is complete and utter bullshit. All of the VA's should be linked to be able to make sure that veteran's are seen and taken care of no matter where they are. PERIOD.

Yeah, already did that. Unfortunately, MyHealtyVet doesn’t work for shit if you can’t change your address via the system that is supposed to make it easier for vets to get VA healthcare.

That right there.

I stay as far away from the cluster that is government managed healthcare as I can. Uncle Sam is my provider but fortunately I've been able to keep my care in the private sector and will continue to do so as long as I'm able.

I’m just trying to get approved for The Mission Act, so I can deal with a private provider. I’m supposedly grandfathered in, so it should be this big of a cluster. My OP was to vent my frustration at the ATL VA system versus the ICT VA system, and their inability to fucking communicate.

I hear you. I retired 24 years ago and consider myself fortunate that I have the option to pick my own healthcare. I never filed with the VA. Some folks say that's stupid but I'm good where I'm at.

My first experience with retiree healthcare back in the CHAMPUS days was less than optimal and I actually bagged Tricare and paid for my own health insurance while my kids were still at home. Now it's just my wife and I so we're back into Tricare and government run healthcare is a total cluster. I can only imagine what it's like dealing with the VA.

I will say that civilian healthcare is only marginally better. I decided this year to get some long running problems looked at. Results after three specialist visits - absolutely f***ing nothing. I have another specialist appointment next week where I'm pretty certain he's going to tell me that the battery of tests I underwent lead to nothing (I've seen the test results - there's nothing there). Maybe he'll come up with some other line of BS to keep me mollified or maybe he'll just say what the last specialist said "well, you're getting old and things like this just come along with old age".

With any luck, the VA transition from their existing eHR (Vista) to the VA version of MHS GENESIS (the new DoD eHR) will help the process along but unfortunately that's years into the future.

In the meantime it looks like all we can do is talk about how bad it all sucks.
