Potassium iodide is not the same thing as iodine tablets used for water purification...

Common brand name IOSAT, potassium iodide inhibits uptake at the thyroid.

Taking regular iodine tablets by mouth is bad for you...

IF you don't have potassium iodide tablets, you can get similar, but diminished, protection by painting your skin with iodine - but never ingest it...

Of the ones listed on Amazon here, which would be the best recommendation?

The Rooskies admit they had a failed nuclear device test. “A small reactor” in some kind of “new weapon.” Mmmhmmmm. If that’s what they admit, you know it’s got to be bigger.

A new theory regarding the Severodvinsk events has been circulating in the news in the last couple of days. The satellite imagery is interesting, to say the least:

https://www.rferl.org/a/russia-radia.../30138178.html

The Russian version of the article has more details:

https://www.svoboda.org/a/30135210.html

Additionally, about a week ago some of the doctors and medical personnel responsible for treatment of the disaster victims made statements to the press that they were not warned of their own risks of contamination. They were ordered to treat patients without taking any precautions for their own health:

In other words, business as usual.

Same playbook as Chernobyl. Deny, Deny, Deny oh wait there was a small accident, no need to worry though. Um, we have a big problem can somebody help us please so we do not contaminate the rest of the planet.

Highly recommend carrying one of these in your wallet. it is a Gamma total dose register... it will tell you if you're OK, or to seek medical attention, or to get your affairs in order.

Hmmm, I wonder if I still have some iodine in my system from using them abundantly at Camp Mackall to use the water from big/little muddy and all the streams/ponds in the area... Let alone PHIII with all the hog farms in Pineland. (If there was a Pineland in '82), I can't remember

I believe the cadre also used them in the lister bags...

The war zone has been tracking this event.

So a nuclear powered rocket? Sounds like a Soviet idea that they decided was a bad idea and now Russia is just dusting off and saying hey this might be cool. But Even if it works you are still slamming a reactor back into the Earth.. yikes.

Coming right on the heals of the submarine fire and that is a lot of highly trained hard to replace guys they are losing. Sounds like a terrible way to go.

If you don't smell ozone, the radiation won't kill you before next week.

The US Air Force developed a similar nuclear-tipped cruise missile with a gas-cooled ceramic reactor powering a ramjet back in the 1960s. The project, along with the HTRE-3 reactor powered bomber, was dropped due to a combination of engineering struggles (the prototype reactor melted down in Idaho), cost over-runs, and the volcanic protests of the Navy that one crashed reactor on US soil would undermine civilian support for the nuclear-powered sub fleet.

ET1, did you ever hear about how that nuke rocket was supposed to be implemented? Project Pluto IIRC, basically it was supposed to drop it's payload (nukes would be "MIRVd"), then fly around the USSR on a predetermined path, irradiating everything under it (the ramjet expelled radioactive particles out of its exhaust) until it would eventually run out of thrust and nose dive into the ground and spreading even more nuclear fallout. Wicked shit.

That's just downright spiteful.
