I always like the scene with Kurtz reading The Hollow men.

Redux, the new version....meh. Just leave it the original way.

Just like George Lucas messed up Star Wars when he re did it, instead of just leaving the original.

Not exactly. Coppola has been restoring footage cut from the original presentation because it wasn't "commercial" enough. Plus (and this is the big one) he hasn't withdrawn the other versions from sale. So we can compare the original with the Redux and final cut versions

Lucas pissed off a lot of people adding CGI cartoon bullshit to the original footage, redoing scenes (Han shot first) and then being a prick about withdrawing all previous versions from sale and telling fans to suck it up.

At least Coppola allows you to have that choice.

The author of this web page used the background material from the film and it is fascinating.

When it first came out I saw it with my friend's dad who served in the 5th SFG SOG in Viet Nam. He really hated it. He was furious.
I told him it was Heart of Darkness set in Viet Nam. He asked about the book and thought about it but he really hated it.
I wonder what he thinks of it today so many years later?

Thanks for posting that.

My cousin hated the drug use of the PBR crew. He told me that wasn't tolerated. He did say the film got it right on how close PBR crews were.

Did you see it? How was it compared to previous versions?

Still the best movie I have ever watched...

"Never get off the boat. Absolutely goddamn right. Unless you were going all the way. Kurtz got off the boat. He split from the whole fucking program."

That sums up the whole movie in one quote.
