Poser Check

I work with a guy who claims AF SpecOps. Retired E8. Claims he all but wrote the CSAR manual. Mentions AFG and talks like a door kicker but keeps slipping up about working in operations. Carries a helmet bag with all kinds of SF type badges. Talks about telling CPTs to shut up and sit down, etc. Says he was never a PJ.

PM and I'll provide name. Don't want to bust on him in public if he's legit.

I must ask... Is he making any claims that merit his background being checked or is this just for your satisfaction in knowing what he did?

Reason I ask is I meet guys daily that claim this or that in Special Ops. My grandfather retired as a CSM in Special Forces and my dad retired a SFC in Rangers and of course I spent time in the Army and USAF Combat Control... I can usually tell when guys are the real deal or not within a few minutes of talking to them. With that said I never waste my time verifying unless he's trying to operate in my AO or apply for a job with me and someone ask about it.

I'm sure many guys here are able to verify the guy for you and will happily do so, but I merely suggest that you try to make a more solid claim for the check first. Just my 2 cents...

He introduces himself as AF Spec Ops, has AF Spec Ops on his personal business card and he used AF Spec Ops on his resume' to get this gig. For someone with his supposed back ground, he is absolutely a non-team player.

Has gone behind the team leads back and blasted him to the company leadership for what reason we don't know.

He intimidates others on the team with statements like "You don't know me, you don't want to mess with me", I'm not afraid of you", "I've seen the elephant, you haven't", etc.

While he may be legit, his actions scream "poser". I'm trying to determine if he is a poser or just a consumate unprofessional.

If the above is correct I also say it warrants a check. Johca is probably a good one to get to verify him. If he's straight out claiming to be CCT (since you said he wasn't claiming PJ) then fell free to PM me and I'll get the name checked. I feel Johca has it under control for you.

There is no one CSAR manual, it starts out at the joint publication level (JP 3-50.2) and goes down the feeding chain into each component. There are many other paths of connected publications from the DOD level down to the components too as CSAR is now under the umbrella of personnel recovery which includes assisted SERE and a lot of other capabilities.

These publications are not authored by one individual even at the component level. I can and sometimes I have claimed to contribute to writing some of these publications. See attached cover sheet.

I've seen the elephant! It was pink and the next day I had a hell of a hangover!

PM sent. I may be able to help verify on the ops side.

Not that I ever heard.
Maybe he was in the Sri Lankan Air Force. Lots of elephants there!

Apparently it means you have seen combat. I never saw the elephant myself, but remember being rather busy at the time.

Elephants are nothing to be scared of as long as you have your mojo!

We had a pilot who used to complain about seeing pink elephants after he did night traps aboard the carrier. One night launch he climbed into the cockpit to find a stuffed pink mouse with a milspec tag that read, "to be used when encountering pink elephants." Never heard him complain about pink elephants again, and never saw him take a night cat shot without "Morty" the mouse in his flight bag...

Had a guy half ass vouch for him. Thought he remembered the name but couldn't remember job specifics. I sent PMs for additional checks to those that sent me PMs.

X 2 what johca said.

It's been a couple of years, but I was involved with editing/rewriting some of the CSAR pubs. If this dude is claiming to have written anything CSAR related he's either a PJ/CRO, or aircrew. If he tells you anything else he's FOS.

Seeing the "elephant" is a Civil War term for combat, perhaps he was in one of the ballons the Union deployed with Army of the Potomac.

Now that would be "old school"
