Maj Samuel "Swacq" Griffith (36) was killed in action on 12/14 in Afghanistan while conducting combat operations. He was assigned to 4th ANGLICO at the time of his death. He leaves a wife and two young sons, one of which had his birthday on 12/15.

Many of us in the Marine JTAC community knew of Swacq either as the F-18 pilot flying combat tours during the early phases of OIF, as the TACP instructor at EWTGLANT at Little Creek, or as the JTAC team leader serving combat tours with ANGLICO in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

I had the honor of both serving in 4th ANGLICO with him and having him be the instructor to give me my final check off in TACP school many years ago. A dedicated family man; he was a close friend, mentor, brother, and leader of Marines who will be sorely missed.

If anyone lives local and would like to attend: His memorial is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Vineyard Community Church, 4444 Expressway Drive in Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in his name to the USO, his church or the sender's favorite charity.

Rest in Peace brother, we have the watch! Semper Fi!

See you at the ORP.

RIP, and my prayers are with his wife and young sons. May they grow to understand what a great man their father is.

In addition to being one of the instructors when I went through TACP, SWACQ flew out to the USS BATAAN back in April to help prepare my FSCC Marines and FiST Leaders for our early deployment. He spent a week on ship, working long hours to train and certify us on targeting software. He spent most nights up late, downloading additional imagery that would help us on deployment. He was a good man and a great instructor. Blue skies, brother.
