COVID Response in NYC

SB approved.

On behalf of the Special Operations Medical Association:

We need your help in a veteran staffed field hospital.

Ryan Larkin was a Navy SEAL medic and sniper who died in April 2017. We are dedicating this COVID19-dedicated acute care field hospital to him. The Ryan Larkin New York Presbyterian Field Hospital at Columbia University can treat up to 200 patients with a dedicated staff of highly-trained physicians, advanced-practice providers, registered nurses, elite-level Special Operations medics, civilian paramedics/EMTs, care techs, and in-house mental health care with dietary and ancillary therapies. The facility will be providing step down level care to offload the New York Presbyterian main hospitals.

Colonel (ret) Melissa Givens, MD MPH is RLNYPFH's medical director, bringing over 20 years' experience in emergency and special operations medicine and disaster operations. Chief of Nursing is Kate Kemplin, PhDc DNP RN CCEEMTP(Em.), an Army-trained Nurse Specialist in Trauma/Emergency, whose certifications include critical care transport, advanced disaster life support, operational medicine, and emergency management.

We aim to stand up RLNYPFH by 15 April and need staff on the ground as soon as 11-12 April. All staff will be paid competitive market rates, receive room and board in NYC, and provided travel to and from NYC from their home state. Our intent is to highlight the skills of SOF advanced practice medics shape future opportunities. An advance team is scheduled to be on the ground 8 April to coordinate with extant authorities.

If you can join us in NY, please click here to complete the assistance form. I have no additional details at this time.

Looking into reactivating my license for this. It may take some time and CONED hours.

Initial RLNYPFH need met.

Thank you to those who responded.

Overall, ~700 stepped up to the plate.

If you have not been contacted and scheduled for RLNYPFH deployment, expect a follow-on email soon with some additional info and requests.

We have met the initial baseline need for the Columbia field hospital. We will retain everyone’s information to begin a backfill/rotate roster (original link). If your skillset meets an open Columbia need, you will be contacted directly.

Additional needs have been identified at other medical facilities in the NYC area. We are partnering with Team Rubicon to manage the logistics. If you are interested in one of these additional NYC opportunities, complete this form in addition to the original link. We will only share your information with Team Rubicon if you consent (“opt-in”) via the linked form.

We will otherwise maintain your information internally/confidentially as a roster for potential deployment to other sites in the United States should another epicenter be identified. If you wish to “opt-out” from locations other than NYC, please email [sof.cr.nyc @ gmail DOT com] with “OPT-OUT” in the subject line.
