All the above advice is good too.

It took me 2 years of interviews and tests to be where I am today. Do you think I took any risks with that process?
No Fear - took me 3 months and a f*** selection course. But I am cheap labor.

This is a good turnaround time. 6 weeks is not bad at all. Do not worry. You did your best, now be patient Let us know when you hear back!

Awesome. Congrats!

I teach a class on how to successfully interview. This thread is like reading the lesson plan, plus an idea or two I hadn't considered. Freakin' great posts. Outstanding advice that everyone should be aware of.

Enjoy your new job!

I went through a three interview process which finally came to a close last week.

1st interview: technical question firing squad from 3 employees.

2nd interview: with the director of the dept, he said since I wouldn't be in this interview if I bombed during the first he wouldn't bother trying hit me with technical questions. He really just wanted to get to know me and who I was as a person.

3rd interview: Project manager of the project I would be coming in on. Laid back, casual "we hope you really consider this position with us"

I only own one suit and my 3 year old decided to spill fruit punch on it the morning of the 1st interview. I went with dress pants (not khakis) shirt, tie and a dark blue sport coat I had. I definitely agree with what was said above about greeting each person individually.

theWookie - congrats, glad you got through it!

Yes it is. A very nice facility and I am excited to work there. As a bonus, they have a rifle range, small caliber, .22 only. And a shooting team; with my background it should be interesting.

Congrats!

Something else to add....it's subtle, but very classy:

When someone says "nice to meet you" we all almost always respond with "nice to meet you, too".

Try this sometime and see how effective it is:

"Nice to meet you."

"Thank you." (smile warmly when you say it, and be sincere)

Then, after a very short pause, "It's nice to meet you, too."

Thanking someone for a kind word of introduction has proven to me to be very powerful. It conveys that you are listening to what is said, are sincerely appeciative, and makes the other person glad they paid you a compliment.

I use this all the time now and find it is a classy way to engage someone for the first time.
