Position Description:

Position Duties and Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for testing and evaluation, as well as maintenance and repair of all Division owned firearms and ammunition. The Armorer performs the following duties:
  • Maintains and operates a weapon testing and repair facility.
  • Performs evaluation testing of all defensive equipment prior to purchase and/or issuance.
  • Develops equipment specifications based on Division needs for guns, ammunition and holsters.
  • Maintains firearms inventory and records on testing and repair.
  • Prepares and/or delivers testimony regarding weapons used by the Division.
  • Prepares special reports documenting equipment failures and makes recommendations for management review.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required for this position:
  • Skill in using Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of creating and maintaining an equipment inventory
  • Skill in weapons testing and making repairs to semi-automatic handguns, pump-action shotguns, bolt-action rifles and AR series rifles (preferably Glock, Sig Sauer, Remington and Colt).
  • Ability to effectively communicate with vendors, manufacturers, supervisors and members of other law enforcement agencies who perform similar armorer duties.
  • Ability and willingness to be part of a team that works toward organizational goals.
  • Skill in preparing correspondence.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and basic office equipment.
Note:
Preference will be given to applicants with professional experience in weapon testing and repair.
Special Note:
The selected applicant must pass a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) criminal history background check.
Background Checks:
A criminal record check to include fingerprinting and Florida driver license check will be conducted on the selected applicant.
