Ranger / SF True? False? Jack L. Garton

Attorney "Jack Garton."

Full name "Jackie Lynn Garton."

Reported as 54 years old.
Resides in Burns / Dickson Tennessee (about 30 miles south
of Fort Campbell).

Under investigation and suspension of law license
for embezzlement of over one million dollars
from a trust fund established for
the minor daughter of a Tennessee Highway Patrolman
who was killed in a side or the road - line of duty accident.

Quote:
A Dickson lawyer who served in the Army special forces, governed as a small town mayor, chaired the local election commission, and represented the county school board was recently suspended from practicing law for — according to the state Supreme Court — “misappropriating” more than $1 million from a woman’s trust fund that was established after her state trooper father, Todd Larkins, died in the line of duty.
Quote:
Garton, who graduated from Dickson County High School before serving in the military 1982 to 1986 as an Army Ranger and later with Special Forces, recently stepped down from his position as chairman of the Dickson County Election Commission after four years. Garton, who earned his law degree from the University of Tennessee, also served as mayor of the Town of Burns and was school board attorney until his license suspension.

The numbers don't look right.
54 years old implies date of birth of 1964.
Service in 1982-1986 would be imply an age range of
18 ~ 22 years old.

He was licensed in Tennessee in 1993 after attending University of Tennessee Law School.

ETS from the Army in 1986 + four years college + three years law school would indicate that he would pass the bar and be admitted on or about 1993, so, not impossible,
especially if he did some college (or CLEP'd) during active duty.

Still, does anybody have any solid information as to this individual having Ranger and Special Forces qualifications?

I assume the U.S. Attorney and the Tennessee Board of Professional Responsibility will do their due diligence, but this story broke today and I'd like to look ahead of the power curve.

Falsely claiming his time as a Ranger and SF is one thing. Embezzling money from a trust fund slated for a fallen officers daughter. If true, what a piece of shit human being.

Thanks Steve788. If I could still edit my post, I'd change that.
I guess I'm allowed only a few minutes before the "edit" tab disappears.

By the way, Jack L. Garton has the following picture on his Facebook page.
No SF, but he well may have been with the 82d Airborne Division.
I don't see a Ranger Tab, and that beret isn't green:

He was in deep cover. Come on.....

PocketKings,
I've written to the reporter and asked for the source of the Ranger/Special Forces claims. No response so far.
If you are in the Burns/Dickson area, could you please check?
I'm guessing a campaign brochure, speech, maybe old yard sign or advertisement.
This fellow was a former Mayor of Burns, he was the Chairman of the Election Commissioner for Dickson County until the charges arose, and was the attorney for the school district until his law license was suspended and his contract was terminated.
I'm guessing somewhere in there -- or in the advertising of his former law partnership with White and Regan -- is his claim to being Ranger and/or SF.
I can't find anything using Google or Bing.

I would have heard or seen something if there was. This town is small - Burns is hardly even a town at all - and Dickson's community of Ranger/SF/Airborne guys is tiny. It's basically me, Craig Morgan, and two other guys.

I'll ask around. Garton is a family name in these parts - lots of them in the hills and hollars. I have four in my customer database alone.

I remember when OEF kicked off, seeing photos of 10th Mountain and the 82nd in Newspapers and Magazines, with the captions calling them US Special Forces.

My mom, 82 years old, still thinks everyone with a black beret is a Ranger. "We were having lunch and there were all these Rangers eating there". No mom, those are National Guard soldiers.

See? Shinseki was right; putting a beret on someone makes them 'elite'...
