New Commandant nominee

Lt Gen David Berger has been nominated by POTUS as the next CMC. His bio calls out Recon and SOTG tours. Anyone have any insight on if he will be a good choice as Commandant?

2nd Force and III MEF SOTG, I'm pretty sure that SB served under him, I never have but I've heard good shit about him.

I never served with him and he's too young to have been my boss at III SOTG.

I think SB might have been at Tun Tavern. ;-)

He was at 2nd Recon Bn in 89 while I was at Force. I haven't talked with anyone who've actually served with him.

I'm hopeful to have a CMC who puts the Infantry at the forefront. Would also like to see the 0321 MOS get more funding and official support.

Not sure if his answer on integrating Boot Camp was for his audience (Senate confirmation hearings) or if he really feels this way. The new SgtMaj MC was named last week, I'd like to hear his take on it.

The new Commandant's Planning Guidance has been released. I've been out of the game for a while but it looks like he plans on shaking things up a bit given present and future threats of China, Iran, Korea. Taking aim at things like MPF, and the MEUs - developing new Strike Groups - and building a stronger and tighter integration with the Navy at various levels.

Here is a PDF of the document - 26 pages.

And an accompanying video. I gotta say I got a bit of a moto-boner from that video.

What say you all on these plans?

Mods - apologies if this doesn't go here. It's not really Recon specific, but I thought it would fit as a follow up to this thread.

CAP,
Correct - there has been a new Commandant for a while. My last post was sharing Gen Berger's new formal plan for the USMC. It looks like he plans on some big changes, which I was commenting on - and asking for some opinions from others on his plans.

Haha - yep!

Or jumping with a poncho-liner with rigger's tape on wrists and ankles during a typhoon. Or so I have heard...

I haven't had time to dissect his CPG, once I do I'll weigh in with my opinion. I'm not a War College alumni so my takes will be limited to the team, platoon, company and Bn level concepts of warfighting with a focus on the advance force reconnaissance aspects of, get me to/from the beach, LZ or DZ without getting killed, I'll figure out the rest when I get there.

ETA: I want a radio, 10lbs max, that can talk HF/UHF/VHF/SATCOM at the flip of a switch, a long gun that can reach out past 1,000m with sub-MOA and a laser designator/range finder with IR/Thermal optics accurate to within 5 meters. Not too much to ask for our Marines. Oh yea, they all need to waterproofed.

That's ok, you'll still need 30 lbs worth of batteries to run it.
