Isn't that 'drone bombing'? Wouldn't that would be a modern version of the buzz bomb of WWII but with some guidance

I wouldn't say I'm that smart about UAS, but I am pretty experienced with counter-UAS, which really means that I understand how difficult it is to counter UAS threats. TTPs used must be specifically tailored to the threat, and it's easy for adversaries to use defenders' counter-UAS TTPs against them.

The best way to do counter-UAS is to target the controller, not the platform.

Here is a drone with the capability to lift 100 kilos (220 pounds).

That's quite a bit more than one hand grenade or claymore.

I could see a lightweight dispenser that could hover at 1,000' and drop
60 mm mortar rounds, while being virtually impervious to ground fire.

Roughly three pounds per round, 33 x 3 = 100 lbs; allowing half that for a fiberglass tube launching system, say all up payload of 150 pounds, still 70 pounds lighter than the drone that carried a skydiver to 1,000 feet:

Pop up, fly the length of a convoy, return to base, repeat.

It's gonna happen.

Come on bro!, this like nothing we've seen before! Nobody cares about 23,000 Brit KIA's and the the entire island on fire from V-1's - these are DRONES! With GPS! Dropping HAND GRENADES!!!!!

I can't believe we've been discussing this for this long when the solution has been staring us in the face all along.... just BAN DRONES! Call DiFi and Pelosi.

If it saves just one life, it's totally worth it.

Best of both worlds. Jam UAS sending it back. Upon the RP of the UAS to the controller a Hellfire also RPs at the same time...

Dedicated anti-air systems are not viable vs drones? There's a 35mm/1000 sea container or LAV chassis based C-RAM system that should eat them up. Was the problem target detection? S/F....Ken M

Very small cross section. Low radar reflection (mostly plastic) and low IR or even visually capable of being acquired. Probably a distinctive audio signature, but not high frequency so as to provide guidance cues. Armed drones found be nasty buggers indeed. Hoepoe is right, expect to see these coming — or going — to a Strip near you.

IME drone detection from a base (infrastructure) isn’t an issue at all.

This is very interesting to me. Mosul is a place I and it sounds like you, fight for a long time in. I was angry when it fell, really angry. Lots of hard work, hard men lost and hard men made. Off topic for the tread but I’d like to hear about it if you could/can. I’m assuming you’re speaking about it falling to ISIS.

I was in mosul pushing out isis with the ISF, IA and fedpol. They would all use drones to help us call in airstrikes but isis would also use them to spot our positions for bracketing.

With regard to them dropping ordinance they most certainly used that the most often. We shot some down and they had jerry rigged soda cans to hold 40mm or primed grenades then would eye ball drop points. Closest i had was 50m but some were not as lucky. I was very effective because coalition forces had the same RC drones. By the time we radioed up to see if it was friendly or not the ground would be popping.
