Apparently acting SecDef has released a statement (via Twitter) - saying approximately 1,000 troops are headed to ME because of Iran situation. This is to fulfill a response from CENTCOM. The troops are "air, ground and naval" defense.

Not sure if this will help anything or if it will add to the possibility of something going down - deliberately or accidentally - from either side.

So - 1,000 troops. Definitely not a MEU...

Air- Fighters/Bombers/Refuelers/Drones

Ground- Anti missile defense/port
security/cooksbakerscandletickmakers. The 'Desert Dome' in Bahrain is probably rocking right now.

Naval- Another boat or two (shooters) changing PIM that are already in the AO.

It's really not much other than being prudent. BALTOPS 2019 just kicked off a few days ago but I don't see anyone shitting themselves that we're gonna invade Russia for Op Barbarossa II anytime soon.

As far as "something going down", that's up to the Iranians if they think they can punk Trump like they did Obama. We'll see.

B2's and Patriot missiles already deployed to Qatar. Abraham Lincoln carrier group as well. I'm sure the POTUS will keep em in check.

Fuckers are like little pecker gnats on a dogs dick on the front porch. Just plain aggravating.

That's not many more than a medium sized USAF fighter squadron

It almost seems like Iran wants to get into a war.

They certainly don't seem to mind poking the bear. I know very little of Naval stuff, but I'd say our Navy is quite capable of bringing some serious smoke if they keep this up.

Iran doesn't want war, just responding to U.S. aggression. Sanctions are "financial terrorism".

There was just a rocket attack on Iraqi oil fields the other day too. Definitely not Iran though...

It's good to see the President isn't making a big deal out of all this.

They're starting to act like North Korea. Maybe they want the same treatment.

Shit, I aint worried. Especially knowing John Kerry and the previous administration is working hard behind the scenes to fix this mess.

It will be interesting to see if the POTUS flags ships coming in and out of the Gulf as Reagan did in 1988.

Over on Instapundit, Glenn Reynolds opines that "... before fracking we had to be able to keep the Straits of Hormuz open. Now all we have to be able to do is keep them closed. And if Iran decides to close down oil shipments from the Gulf, it’s basically an oil embargo on China."

Yep... If you are an investor in either of the major pipeline projects across the middle east into the Med/South of Europe you are smiling about now.

Minimal response would benefit us.

Wait a bit, then sink their subs, and eliminate as many (all if possible) of the small boats (and mother ships). Then finish their Navy off, and flatten their oil loading/off loading facilities.

Cruise missiles, and airstrikes with no BOG.
