The Prepositioning and Marine Corps Logistics Services (P&MCLS) program is based in Jacksonville, Florida. We provide maintenance and logistics services to the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) and U.S. Navy. We are currently accepting resumes an Artillery Mechanic in Jacksonville, Florida.

Job Description:
Performs basic duties involving inspection, maintenance, and repair of towed artillery howitzers and other weaponry. Provides technical assistance, guidance, or training to lower level artillery technicians and provides assistance to higher level artillery technicians. Performs other tasks as assigned.


Basic Qualifications:
  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Five years of directly related work experience.
  • U.S. Citizen.
Additional Qualifications:
  • Complete the Towed Artillery Repair Course or equivalent.
  • Requires detailed knowledge of mechanical, and a practical working knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to recognize improper operations, locate the cause, and determine the best methods for correcting defects.
  • Ability and skill to fit and adjust parts and assemblies.
  • Ability to read and interpret repair manuals, diagrams, and other technical information.
  • Ability to comply with all established methods, quality standards, and time schedules applicable to this position.

Not certain, but I'd almost be willing to be that this is part of the same outfit that is maintaining the pre-positioned brigade set on the boats that are swinging at anchor at Diego Garcia. I'd almost swear it was Raytheon that had the contract last time I heard.

More gear is staged up in Jax, too. Contractor mechanics of all types are hired to maintain the gear, giving them periodic maint / services, and exercising them to the extent they can while they are still chained in place.

The forward deployed slots in the Indian Ocean pay pretty well, I understand. The stateside jobs are paying obviously less.

Thanks for the response. I haven't done the arty thing in a few years but they contacted me about this. There aren't many pertinent details anywhere I've looked. Anybody else have anything to add?
