The Run For Home

by Leland Cooley.

Picked this up in a used book store because I like the cover: Dude standing with a sea bag looking at a ship. Very interesting story of an 18 year old who left a very comfortable CA home in the 1920s to serve a stint as a deckhand in the Merchant Marine - classic seeking adventure book.

Mostly details life on the ship, characters, some ports, some issues important to 18 year olds - first loves, etc.

Overall a very decent read for $2 in the used book store.

The author served in the MM and also went on to write a couple books but also produce the Perry Como show for a number of years.

Amazon has a couple:

If you're feeling your age and long for at least reading about adventure this one isn't a bad one.

Going to have to read this. Had an Uncle, now passed away, that ran off at age 17 to join the MM in the late 1930s. He later went on in life to become a Professor if educational psychology at the University of Chicago.

Thanks. I'll check it out based upon your recommendation. Since you don't have a cocked pee hole, I'll just kick you in the vajayjay if it sucks.
