Rented it last night. I liked it. I thought it showed the savagery of man, both Red & White, during that era. And showed that with all of their differences, they're a lot more alike than they thought.

The one thing I would have like to see was Bales character smack the Harpers Ferry reporter in the face and leave him with a mouthful of bloody chicklets. I guess reporters were no different back then, lol

Finally watched this last night. I thought it was outstanding. Bale, Pike, Studi (one of my favorites), Cochrane all gave great performances. I really enjoyed the multiple story lines combined with action scenes that actually enhanced the story. Costumes, camera work, scenery were all fantastic. The movie definitely went in an unexpected direction, but in a way that I enjoyed. I give it 9/10.

I'm a huge Wes Studi fan; this one came up short for me. I'm glad I only paid the RB tax. Started out like gangbusters, had a long fizzling fuze for the next 2hrs, and then some hooyah at the end.

Amazon Prime had a rental special on this for $1.99 so I watched it. Great movie.
I liked how it touched on both the brutality of Indians and the white man towards each other, and also the brutal losses they both had to deal with. Strong writing, acting and directing in this one.

Imagine Studi in his outfit in Nam? He is an Oklahoma son.

I don't see a lot of movies. I watched this one on a flight yesterday.

Hostiles was one of the best portrayals of the effects of long-term combat on the participants that I have ever seen. I did not enjoy this movie, but it was a very good movie.

Dances with wolves
Broken trail
5:10 to Yuma
Revenant
Yapaloosa
Open range
Wyatt Earp
Magnificent 7
The long riders
Bone tomahawk

All much better movies.
Consider adding Unforgiven to this list.

Was just not a fan of Unforgiven, thought it sucked - probably the minority on that one - and was surprised received so many rewards.

I liked it overall but I think I can see where you're coming from.

What about Pale Rider?

I saw it the other night, it was ok, thought it dragged on a bit too long.

I was amazed that I was able to identify Rory Cochrane underneath that beard, playing Master Sgt Thomas Metz. Sure has come a long way since he played Slater in Dazed and Confused.

I'll eventually watch it. The cast seems good but it does seem to be a long movie.

(BTW LP. It's 3:10 to Yuma. But we are in different time zones)

Just finished it up. Bale keeps living, I felt so bad for the dude for surviving. I couldn’t imagine teaming up with Al Qaeda in 06, and fighting a common enemy...

Kind of puts it in perspective.

nope I'm with you. And I really wanted to like it, I just couldn't. Of course I only saw it once and that was when it came out, oh so many years ago.
