Thumbs up VA success story...

So after myself, and others, being critical of the VA health system, thought would share a positive note.

Last night, an infection on my arm initially thought to be a spider bite - as diagnosis by the local VA outpatient clinic, and I thought so also as had been cleaning out spider webs from the corners of my exterior windows - was getting worse and worse. So the VA nurse recommended I drive down to the 24 hour emergency room in Indianapolis to have checked out.

One of my MA students (Army Afghan PH veteran) offeredto drive me since he had been there several times and knew the way. I had not yet been to the VA hospital in Indianapolis yet. It is about an hour drive from my house.

So got there about 8pm. No waiting at all and was promptly seen by a nurse, then a doctor. Very professional. Drained and cleaned my boils from a staff type infection ( as had spread and clearly not a spider bite now) and Antibiotics prescribed and script promptly filled at the in house pharmacy. Doctor was older lady, just as pleasant as could be. Very professional bedside manner.

Overall good, efficient experience. No problem going down there again as needed.

I am glad to hear this. I recently heard another compliment regarding VA medical care in Tacoma.
I really hope that they work to fix the system. Many are without options and some without assets and they depend upon it.

I had to use the VA ER once and had a similar experience. I had a pinched nerve. My only issue was them giving me motrin from fear I was seeking narcotics, they must see a lot of it. They gave me a shot of Torydal (sp) which eased the pain, made me a chiropractor appointment for the next day. The Chiroprctor was amazed when I told him I would do the PT. He said, most times, I feel like I am talking to myself.

Was it in reference to an old man yelling at people to get off the grass? #wheredidyouburyit?

Wow. And then just about an hour ago my VA primary care physician gives me a call and discussed how he got a notification I called the 24 hour nurse over the weekend and went to the ER. Doing a follow up to see how I am doing and gives me some information about the wound, the healing process and how to treat day to day.

That's good medicine! Hopefully, that kind of care will spread over the VA's system and soon become the norm. It's one of those things that one can hope for and is not one that can't be accomplished with a little work.

Alright! Nobody move! There is some weird shit going on here! Two moons in the sky over the weekend and now the VA is getting compliments? I don't like the feeling of this......What next? CNN starts ragging Pelosi and complimenting Trump and DoJ announces a Clinton investigation? Time for the tinfoil, my weird shit-o-meter is pinging....

Holy shit Batman. I'm glad you're getting some good care LP. My VA hosp is nothing like that.

Be careful with that staph and do what they say. It's bad news if it gets out of control. I had a bout of it after my surgery this spring and ended up with an extra 5 days in the hospital for it.

I hope you get well soon LP. I go to the same VA as GS and the ER is usually a long wait. I spent 13 hours in the ER a couple of year ago with gut problems. The VA would not diagnose me with anything even after seeing a gastro doc. I went to a Gulf War Illness Study last spring and was diagnosed with IBS.
